Aromatherapy That May Help Relieve Some PTSD Symptoms

This is a great thread Amethist because I love essential oils and have been using them for years!

Wanted to add that another way to "refresh and exhilarate" is to make your own homemade scrub by adding a few drops of oil to brown sugar (white sugar if you don't want that sweet of a smell), or sea salt (the course ones are too rough) with some olive oil and scrub a dub dub away and then rinse off in the shower! I love body scrubs but sometimes I will just do my feet or my hands for a quick pampering and rinse off with warm water.

You not only feel soft and smooth, but the oil scent will linger with you as well!

I also use lemon and orange oils for cleaning house (add it to baking soda for nice chemical free all purpose cleaner), and lavender for laundry. For a refreshing toner I use tea tree oil - diluted of course.

You are in fact a true gem, amethist. Thank you for sharing and making sure this stays so we can all learn from it's pages.

Thank you Anthony for keeping this site open for all of us who suffer and support sufferers. Thank you again for posting truth. It really helps us to heal.

I recently bought lemon scented body wash that has essential oil in it. I know lemon scented is a bit unique but it's targeting the need for 'energy'. I don't know about that but it really wakes me up. I will spend a few minutes just smelling it before I use it.

I will have to go back to that store and see what other helpful body products they have. They have a whole aromatherapy section.

:)

This is a great thread Amethist! I am definitely going to try a few of these to help my sufferer. I have a question though... are there any oils that help with physical aches and pains?

When my husband has back ache I use Thyme and lime in the bath. Thyme helps the aching and lime helps lift him up from the depression the pain causes.

Mix 6 drops of each into a fragrance free bubble bath, then swish it into a warm bath. Lie back and relax.

Other oils you can use are. Marjoram, Rosemary and Cypress. Not together, but you can mix any one of them with the Lime.

The simplest way of all is to just put 2 or 3 drops, no more, of your chosen oil onto a clean tissue or handkerchief.
I was looking on the internet and came across 'blank inhalers'. They look like the old Vicks nasal cylinders. I found some in different colours which I thought would be great for taking on the plane with me (airports don't like liquids). They have a cotton wool type wick. You put 10 - 20 drops of your oil on the wick, seal it up and carry it with you.

Have you come across these or heard of anyone using them. I will let you know how it goes.
