Aromatherapy That May Help Relieve Some PTSD Symptoms

Room, pillow and linen spray.

Here is an easy and simple, yet effective way to use Essential oil's. All of the above are made exactly the same way and you can make 2 or 3 up and use them for each of the above. Or just make one and use it for all 3, it is really up to you with this one.

You will need.

Essential oil of your choice.

New spray bottles,(keep the same one for the same oil, as the plastic of the bottle will take on the smell of the oil you use. The one's you can adjust to a fine mist are best.

Distilled water, the type you put into car batteries is great for room spray's, as it is cheap and you can buy it at most garages and car accessory shops.

You could use tap water, but you will find it will go off after a few days and also ruin your spray bottle.

Fill the bottle with distilled water and for every 100 mls of water, add in 15 to 20 drops of you chosen essential oil.

Shake and use. remember to shake it before each use to distribute the oil. It should last for ages, as long as you keep it in a cool dark place. Bottom of your fridge would just fine, or a bathroom cabinet, preferably away from young children.

So for pillow sprays to help you sleep you could use Lavender, Sandalwood, Geranium, Palma Rosa, Neroli or Ylang Ylang.

For room sprays, you could go wild and use any one of the different oils available. I use sage a lot for my own room sprays. Opening windows and doors, giving every where a good clean and then spray it all around. It gives a wonderful fresh feel to my home.

Linen sprays are wonderful to use in the winter or for anyone who cannot hang bedding out to blow. Again use any you prefer. Ylang Ylang or Neroli are good for linen, or any of the oriental type oils. be careful with some though as they can be too heady if used to much. But you can always use less oil in the water, so have a greater dilution. You will still be able to smell it, it will just be more subtle.

Always remember that this is water, so be careful around polished wood and anything electrical.

Give it a go, create and enjoy.

we used to burn insense and use lavender oils to help get my son to sleep as a toddler, don't know why it hadn't ocurred to me to use it for my man til now, thanks for your words of wisdom...

I was asked by motorjack about a blend being pushed by the U.S. military.

It is called NIGHTTIME, and after have a quick search found that it is probably a blend of Marjoram and Lavender, bought either as the oils alone ready blended or in a carrier ready to use as a massage oil.

Both of theses are calming and relaxing so would be of help to those whose minds run riot at night, though I would not advice using this blend every night, as you can become sensitized to the Lavender.

I also had a look at how much is was being sold for ready blended, and as usual it is a crazy price. Here in the UK, it is being sold for around £6 ( 9 Can. D) for an 8ml bottle of just the oils, and around £10 ( 15.50 Can. D) for a 100ml bottle in a carrier. Which to me is extortionate, but being a specialist product this happens world wide.

To make you own is very simple, and you can make it up as and when you need it.

10ml bottles of the individual oils will cost around £2 to £5 Sterling, so probably around 3 to 8 Can .D. But with these you can blend up a lot of the blend they sell ready done.

As you only need a few drops of each every time and you get approx 200 drops per 10 ml, you can see how far it will go.

There are many oils you can blend together or use on there own for calming and to aid restful sleep.

Marjoram and Sweet Orange is another one which works well, especially if you blend 3 drops of the Orange and 6 of the Marjoram into a perfume free bath or shower gel, run it under the tap as you run a warm bath. The Orange gives you a sense of safety and the Marjoram helps to calm your mind.

Other oils you can use together for the same effect are.

Juniper berry and Chamomile

Geranium and Lavender

Just to name a few. There are many more, and if you look back through this thread you will find more.

I have only just looked at this thread. Thank you so much Amethist! I am feeling the need to curl up and nuture myself. Like KP i was just about to head out to buy some essential oils. This is a wonderful thread. Thank you for all the time and effort you have put into this!

I was feeling crafty :) and I mixed up a blend of oil, made with Frankincense and Myrrh, and Sandalwood essential oil. I really hope other people like the way these oils smell on me because I have been dousing myself in it. :p The combination not only smells heavenly, imho, but it makes me feel clean, fresh, and vibrant. As it turns out these ingredients are very good for the skin as well, (which I found out through google...thanks google). lol

Above all, the smell of this oil relaxes me and I thought I would share it here with my friends. If you decide to try it, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

This sounds wonderful Lionheart, but a small word of caution. These all have a sedative effect on there own, as well as all being base note oils, so using them all together is not advisable to do too often. If you do then remember to dilute them well in a good quality carrier oil, such as Sweet Almond oil.

A dilution of these oils should be around 1 to 2.5 %, no more. So a combination of the oils should have no more than 10 drops in 50mls up to 25 drops in 50 mls, but I would suggest the lower dilution if using all 3 together.

With all three being what are called Base Note oils, they all have heavy molecules, so are much thicker than most. They evaporate very slowly, are absorbed into your body much slower and can last up to 7 days.

The heavier oils are excellent for relieving panic, anxiety, grief, stress, fear and nervous conditions, and really should only be used together for extreme issues.

The ideal balance would be to use a top, middle and base note together, or a combination of two of the three where ver possible.

Also remember to drink plenty of water when using essential oils, as they can have a dehydrating effect on you. If you find you are feeling too drowsy with them, increase the dilution down, using less of the oils in the carrier.

I would not advise using this oil combination too often Lionheart, nice as it may smell, because of the length of time it can linger in you body. It does soak into your body, even though it is mainly the aroma that does the job.

When my husband needs to use the oil's I always make him have a shower after, to rinse off any reaming oil, to lessen the lasting effect.

Enjoy them, but take care too.

:eek:Thank you for letting me know these can have a dehydrating effect on me, as I only have one kidney and dehydration is not a friend of mine!!!

The Frank and Myrrh oils are made with olive oil so I guess that dilutes it some, but I will dilute it with more carrier oil, such as the almond oil you mentioned and use it a little more sparingly. :) *(drinking plenty of water as well).

Now you have told me that, drink plenty when ever you use any essential oils, even if you burn them in a burner.

Keep topping up with water all the time. Maybe even double what you would normally drink, just to be safe. :)

For all those who have muscle problems, and want something to put in a bath for a long hot soak, this blend may help. Not only can it ease your aches, it can be uplifting too.

Into some fragrance free bath gel, add 5 drops of Thyme, 3 drops of Patchuli and 3 drops of lime. Run it under the running tap, then lay back and relax.

I use oils all the time.usually in my burner, but also in my bath salts (rocksalt, baking soda, epsom salts mix) or just mixed with soda or milk if that all I have.

I mainly use Lavender (sister in law makes it) Eucalyptus and Cedar, Geranium, Bergamot. Marjoram, and of course I clean with Lemon, Tea Tree and others.

I was going to be a "party" sales lady, but never quite got the courage to do it. I would still really like to as I love the products and I know they are quality. I just haven't been able to commit myself or have the faith in myself to handle the workload.
