I've been a career missionary to Haiti since 1979. In those years I have both witnessed and been involved in some of the deepest levels of human suffering including abject poverty and violence. I stuck it out through some of the worse decades on record. I suffer chronic PTSD and have lost nearly everything when family and friends bailed through the hard times. I have good days and bad days. I feel very much alone in the struggle to connect the dots leading back toward a fulfilling life.

Welcome to the forum!

I hope that you can feel supported here on the forum so that the healing journey is a little less lonely.

Hi and welcome to the forum. This is a good place to get help and support. It is nice to meet you.

I just read Anthony Parsons' "Understanding Post Traumatic Stress Disorder." That article is one of the most concise, to the point explanations I have ever seen. It should be shared far and wide.

I have suffered PTSD most of my life. I won't go into specifics right now, maybe some other time. But the worse thing about PTSD is not knowing where to turn for some kind of understanding about what's going on inside the sufferer. People need to understand, to be educated. Nobody in my world knew how to "handle" me. Now they're all gone (or I'm gone) and I've lost touch with everything that was ever normal to me. Whallah, the stressors have multiplied exponentially.

One hurtle after another.

Looking back I wonder what would be different if any one of my support persons would have taken the time to inform themselves about PTSD. Even my therapist, psychiatrist and clergy admitted they knew little to nothing about it.

I think I'll dig a little deeper around here. I hope I can contribute to a positive, encouraging environment.
