Comfort Food Ideas For When You Have No Appetite

Hodge, tamari is a more intense but less salty type of soysauce... its flavor is great for strong marinades and dipping. unlike soysauce it is fermented. Braggs liquid amino acids are a low sodium non fermented version of soysauce it has a mild flavor and many helpful amino acids.
Veiled, tempeh is fermented soybean cake, its super good for you and is easy to digest...its kind of nutty. Many people who don't like tofu love tempeh because the texture is way diofferent. We like soy but try to mostly avoid nonorganic heavily processed products. I love tempeh though and it's bonus points that it's fermented because I'm way into fermented foods... they help my digestion (I have had serious stomach problems) as well as improve my energy and add many nutrients/vitamins to my diet.
Thai rolls sound terrific, I just came across a recipe for lettuce cups that sounds similar...

Oh, I think we should post what ever food we want, there is no moderating long as you are not purposely trying to be nasty (like I said my mind wandered), just excused myself from posting about "oysters" personally. But it must be good for some as they are having a cook off here. I think seeing all the differences is good.

Agreed - what veiled said.

I'm not at my best, lately, either. I've got wandering mind, among other stuff.

And, thanks Melvin, for all the info. I knew I'd heard of tempeh, but couldn't remember what it was. Sounds like something that would work for me better than tofu.

My latest comfort food is Creme Savers ice cream, like the Life Savers candies. It's actually ice cream mixed with sherbet. I love the orange; it reminds me of eating creamsicles as a kid, which doesn't have bad memories attached :-).

Well, I just wanted to try to revive this thread for all the newcomers in recent weeks. When my symptoms are bad, I have to forcefeed myself, which is not fun. Maybe we'll get more ideas.

Here's one I've been eating the last few days - it takes a bit of work, but it's good to go for a few days, and it's nutritious:

Tuna Salad Wrap

2 small cans tuna fish or 1 large can
1 stalk celery, chopped
1/3 cup chopped onion
good dose of Nature's Seasoning spice mix
2-3 tablespoons light mayonnaise
sprinkling of shredded Swiss or Cheddar cheese, optional

Mix well everything but cheese. Spread on a tortilla or flat wrap, add cheese if preferred, and roll up.

Oh this is so bad...................When I was at my worst ever about 10 yrs ago. PTSD was at it's worst ever. I lived on (I am so embarrassed) Rye toast and jelly beans. For drinks....COFFEE!!!!

There you have it. It was my main diet for months, and months....I don't recommend it to anyone:naughty:, but I did survive and now eat a better variety of foods. LOL!!!! Very rarely do I eat Jelly beans, but I do have a 5lb container on display in my living room just in case......

Actually now I like Triscuit crackers with peanut butter.

She Cat, no embarrassment, please! When I started this thread, a big intention was just ideas to get the calories in, no matter where they come from :)

Triscuits and peanut butter sounds good. When I was a teenager I liked Ritz crackers and peanut better, but Ritz's are too rich for me now.

Here's a recipe for a good old-fashioned casserole, or hot dish, depending on where you are from:) It's not a lot of work, it will feed one or two people for days, and it's nutritious and inexpensive.

About 1/3 lb. ground beef
About 1/3 of a large onion, chopped
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 empty soup can filled with skim milk
1/2 package egg noodles (regular or no yolk) or 1 cup rice
1 1/2 cups frozen mixed vegetables
1-2 t. garlic powder
1-2 t. Nature's Seasoning blend of spices

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Cook egg noodles or rice on top of stove.
Fry up ground beef and onions till beef is cooked and onions are tender.
Meanwhile, in a 2 and 1/2 or 3 quart casserole dish, mix cream of mushroom soup and milk.
Stir spices and frozen vegetables into the casserole.
When beef and noodles or rice are done, stir them in also.
Optional toppings: paprika; bread crumbs or crushed potato chips
Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until sauce is bubbly.
