The light pollution is peculiar tonight, because of the rain in the distance. Distance made peculiar. Sounds distorted. Wind howling through the canyons, still air here. Aircraft cut across the sky, I was thinking one transpacific jet on approach, but no. 2 fast movers in oh so tight, so sweet, formation to heaven knows where. They banked away. A lazy helicopter almost appearing to float and bob amongst the buildings in slow motion. A trick of the wind making its progress silent. Normal air traffic overhead thrumming, highway traffic below and distant, creating the illusory sound of waves over sand. Sirens peal and fade.
The breeze picks up. It's a cool night. The crisp of fall without the bite.
