Debating Telling Others About This Site

I have told both my therapist, psych and nurse about this website. No one had any issues with it. In fact my therapist even helped me get perspective and settle back into a member only after being an admin. :)

None of them have joined to spy on me. I know they have checked out the forum, but this is also a resource for them. They can now pass along the information to other patients with PTSD.

Really I don't think you have anything to worry about. Just spit it out. I found this forum and it really helps, it's called the PTSD forum....

The therapist I had last year, I told her about this site. I think many therapist would be more than ok with the support that we get from here, and that we are learning how to share, trust and many of the other issues that we have.

I've told my therapist about this place too. He was fine about it.

I think its best to be as open as you can. Tell them everything and then you are giving them the best chance to help you.

I think you will be fine. This website is referred in several books now, and is also referred to by many therapists, psycologists, psychiatrists, etc. Some of the leading shrinks and mental health experts discuss issues surrounding PTSD with me or refer to this site for insight to the PTSD brain. It is a resource for them to gain insight, to gain knowledge into helping us. I honestly would not be worried about showing them this site.

The program I attended recommended me to not establish this site when I did, that they thought it would be a bad thing, etc etc... some of those people now recommend this very site to other PTSD sufferers to gain online support. Nothing beats face to face support for PTSD... and I do mean nothing.

Anyone who uses any website for the wrong reasons is just doing themselves harm. If you sit here upon this site for hours daily, you are likely doing more damage than good. You should use it in moderation, like anything in life, moderation is the key. Read what is useful to you, discard the rest. Post to gain insight, opinions, toss ideas around. There is always abuse, use and dependency. Remain in the use area and it will be healthy for you.

It is like some who use social networks... they become dependent upon them which is an addiction, unhealthy. Show them I say.... don't be paranoid or defensive about what you do... if anything they should support you if it helps you. If this site wasn't helping you, I would recommend you to leave, as should they.

I told my therapist about this site, and after some discussion about the safety of the site (and telling them about the rules here), I was told that coming here was an excellent idea. The communication with other people who understand is very healing

My CBT therapist asked me to print off my diary pages for her...that was when I first started and she told me that the info I gave her was worth about 6 months of therapy time for all of the information that I had shared. She was very happy about it and thought it was a great thing.

I know when I originally started...I was using the forum alot and I did a lot of work thinking the faster I just got it done and out..the better I would be quicker..how wrong I was!!! I realized and learned through this site a lot of things. IMO and in my experience my therapists think it is a great thing. When I switched and started EMDR...she also recognized this as a huge support for me and thought it was a great thing. As Anthony said..if done in moderation..it helps not hinders and telling a therapist which I have done twice turned into a positive experience for me. I hope you feel more at ease now since writing this thread.
