The News Media are notorious for looking for the negative side of things and they are so bent upon this that they will sometimes invent ideas and then try to find some kind of thing to support their idea(s). My uncle worked for the News Show 20/20, so I am not just saying this off the top of my head. I have some background info.... suffice it to say that if there is anything negative to be said about anything, for sensation's sake, the news media will dig it out of NOWHERE and find some way of making it look true. This could have been fabricated, is what I am trying to say. Trump or the powers that be most likely chose your band for its excellence and nothing more. Take it for a cudo and go for the gold!

Oh, wow, Renee. I'm sorry, but also glad for your band, even though I personally would be loath to perform...

History is history....not many people get to say they were chosen to perform in a presidential parade and whether you agree with the president or not, you will be a part of history in the making.

I loved marching in parades and the experience of traveling with friends. I hope you have fun!

Probably not the President-Elect himself, but one of his staffers, yes. Maybe the President-Elect.

That's just the way it works. Some will be chosen because they've placed first in every national and international competition. That's what makes them stand out from the crowd. Everyone knows the name Juilliard for a reason. Some will be chosen because they wish to pay honor or tribute in some such way. That's what makes them stand out. Whether that's the survivors of 9/11, or school violence, or children of fallen soldiers, or a town whose mine has collapsed. Some will be chosen by personal favor. Some will be chosen at random. Some will be chosen by handing a busy staffer a list and telling to take care of it, and will be chosen by whatever method they happen to divine! (How many licks to the center of a tootsie pop? The world may never know.)

No matter who is chosen, by whatever method or motive, noble or numerical; the media will spin it, both parties will spin it, and people will believe whatever they want to.

No matter how one gets IN the door, however? That's all it is. In the door. What you do AFTER you get in the door is what matters. Whether it's chosen to play at the inauguration, or attend a college, or hired for a job. :) It's not the wedding day, but the marriage. Not the birth, but the child. Not the acceptance letter, but the living of it, and doing it.

Thank you so much for your reply. I've been worried a lot lately about such matters. College interviewers bringing it up and me hoping it didn't play a role in acceptance. And this parade too.

But I like how you said it. It's not about how we get in but what we do with it. Made me smile. I want to do good things with this, no matter how I was chosen.
