Digestive Problems Anyone?

Honestly, clonazapam is the only thing that works: that and Bentyl for the spasms. (I only take half of the smallest Clon. dose.) Once you take it and calm, so will your gut. The major thing is a bottle of powerade/gatorade daily and a bottle of high protein Boost. I learned that when your gut is hurting/growling, sometimes it's because you've gone so much you're dehydrated. 8 good gulps of Gatorade pronto. Sounds crazy, but you'll see that it works.

Best of luck.

I agree completely with you- these are the same things I use. I tried going gluten-free and that's helped a lot as well, but I recently ended up in the hospital again after a really stressful time doing a proposal at work (lots of overtime, plus I was taking two classes at the same time). This time the pain is just not going away, so I finally went to a specialty clinic at Johns Hopkins and I ended up with a neurogastroenterologist who told me all the stress (beginning with years of PTSD) had caused a physical condition called pelvic floor dysfunction. If you're seeing a GI doctor about your issues you may want to ask about that- I was seeing a local GI doctor for years who never caught it. He tells me it can be fixed with bio-feedback therapy and if you keep your stress levels down afterwards your symptoms might go away altogether.

Have had IBS for years, sometimes very severe. I have cervical disc herniation that is very painful and a torn rotator cuff operated on in December. While the surgery was very successful, the pain has returned so I obviously have redamaged it. Because of the pain, I take prescription pain meds, but in attempt to manage even with these meds, I have used IBProfin and Aleve for years. Last week I got scoped. I dont have heartburn usually but daily nausea, vomitting, loss of appetite and have lost 18 lbs. I have GERD, esophogitis, and a hiatal hernia, and a biopsy was done. Back in full pain with the rotator cuff, I see surgeon in a week, but feel caught in a loop.

I also knows the ptsd stress plays a strong role in the symptoms.

I suffer from stomach cramps and diarrhea. Then I can terribly constipated. I know for sure it is not my diet, as I eat pretty much the same all the time and it comes and goes.

I find in periods of stress I get the cramps and loose stools. The constipation comes if I do not drink enough water. I know if I get anxious then my stomach is going to start becoming loud again :(

I had worse case of diarreah yesterday... Def anxiety a related as saw psych... Not been that bad in ages where it's unrelenting, all day long and lots of cramping :( Also, incidentally my acid reflux and heart burn was also the worst it's been in a long while... Hate how my body reacts physically to stress!! :( x

This thread sure is comforting to read ... !!! Thanks for posting ...

Anna,
I was not diagnosed with ptsd til age 50. When I was in my 20's, following a divorce from an abusive man, I began having diahria daily. The worst was the cramping though. Everytime we went to a restaurant, I would get horrible cramping and bloating. I would have to come home and lay on my stomach until it exploded. Occassionally I would get constipated. Eventually I was diagnosed with IBS. It can change where you go, make you afraid to eat, and just about every aspect of life.I knew I could not be getting the nutrients when everything goes right through you. I am sorry you are having this. Like you, it had nothing to do with diet. First I thought it might be dairy, then preservatives in salad products, etc. There was never any rhyme or reason to it. However, it seems to have eased up, unfortunately I think it is because of the meds I take are constipating, so now I have that.

I have noticed a lot of people with high stress, not just ptsd, seem to suffer from this. Now they say fibromyalgia and cfids is related to early trauma. So on top of the ptsd psychological symptoms, we seem to have been double wammied with physical ailments on top of the ptsd. I am finding it harder as I get older to manage all the health issues. Are others finding it more difficult with age?

Yes, my body seems to shut down a lot. My heart beat slows, my breathing slows so it makes sense that everything else does too. I juice my food (vegetables etc). I need to do this to keep my energy up and to keep the work my body has to do to a bare minimum.
