Dissociation Keeping Me Awake At Night?

I have experienced this occurrence at various points throughout my life, lately these episodes have been stronger than ever. I lay down in bed intending to fall asleep, then at some point I am spacing out. I don't realize it until I notice my eyes are open, it's been a couple hours since I've laid down and here I am starting at the wall dazed into another reality.

Just wondering is this something normal or associated with my ptsd? It's frustrating lately because I really need the sleep but cannot keep this from happening.

I don't have great answers for you because I could have written the question! I do this as well. I have started taking Lunesta at night and it does help me fall asleep faster and it seems to happen less. It also happens to me during the day if it is on a weekend or I happen to have the day off...I set the alarm on my phone so it will keep me from spacing out for hours. It is really frustrating!

I wake up a lot in the middle of the night and cannot go back to sleep. I often cannot recall what woke me, the dreams, I cannot remember them. BUt I'll wake up at 4 AM and that is it for that night's sleep, so the days are long.

Often during the day I stare off into the distance and my mind wanders aimlessly, while I stare into thin air. I come out of these times dazed, not really recalling what I was thinking about. Then I doze off at 4PM because I am so tired. I go through many days and nights like this until finally I sleep one or two nights without it happening, then it starts all over again, sigh....
