Do I Have To Get Emdr?

Thank you all I am glad I don't have to do emdr
You do not have to. My T of several year (both prior to my assault and after) told me given the issues I previously worked thru and am currently working through it was unlikely emrd would help given I still have regularly occurrences of flashbacks and purposefully reliving those during this time might just be a bomb of a trigger for my triggers. I was also told I didn't have to engage in forgivnance. Everything is not for everybody. We are all here because of PTSD but We are individuals and therapy is not one size fits all.
 
I've tried both. Emdr has been intense because I have multiple tramas and complex PTSD. But I will say, it has been benificial. I've made some major life changes. But it also caused a lot more panic attacks. I noticed myself getting more depressed and easily triggered. Things I forgot about got brought to the surface. So we had to back things up quite a bit. Which is incredibly frustrating because I have a limit of visits that my insurance covers.
I would say as long as you're getting help, it helps. With the right therapist. I've incorporated online self help courses and its been great. But I'm sure it'll be a lifelong journey.
 
Somatic Experiencing, EMDR and Brainspotting all come out of the latest research that memory in encoded in the body. The goal is to find and address it, moving it out of your body. Many believe that it is a much less painful process (I concur) and perhaps it is why many have not gotten enough relief from other therapy which do not use the body as a focus You can go on you tube and type in Brainspotting. Dr David Grand has multiple video's describing brainspotting. You can also get this with specific types of Yoga, Massage and Neurofeedback. Nothing is a must!
