Does A Haircut Really Change Your Mood?

As much as I loathe the hairdresser (right up there with the dentist - once every few years), I know I'm not the only one who harbours the belief that when things have been crappy, getting a completely different haircut seems like a great solution to change everything, fresh new start, chop it all, party on...

But before I go lopping off about a foot long of hair, what's your experience? Has it worked for you? Has it just been a complete disaster? Has it been a funny disaster or head-in-a-paper-bag disaster?

I'm quite sure I'm not the only one guilty of playing the Haircut card when I'm looking for a big change...So what's the consensus, does it help or hinder..?

Helps!

Then again-------I only get my hair cut once every 8-10 months. Right now I'm on month 9. My tipping point is when it gets caught on everything and my head gets unexpectedly yanked around.

I only get it cut a little bit shorter, maybe 5 inches cut off. Short styles require more frequent cuts and at $50 a pop I can't afford that. (Have seen the same stylist for quite a few years. Won't risk something so important with anyone else. A bad haircut could make me hate my appearance for a long time.)

Just dyed it last night. Felt good. I only go a few shades from my natural color but it makes such a difference. I was having violet envy after seeing the commercials for Loreal dye on tv last night. Couldn't pull it off plus it would ruin my hair. :(

I tend to change my hair color or style or otherwise alter my appearance every time I pass through a watershed moment or encounter a lot of stress at once. I love it.

In the past year, my hair has been red, brown, magenta, blue and plum, blonde, blonde and teal, white and teal, lilac and teal, silver and teal, and blue, and I've sported about four distinct hairstyles/lengths.

Of course, this past year was a bit of a doozy. ;)

ETA: I also don't get upset over stuff like hair, though, if I don't love it.

Yeah------totally not getting a new style here------I look wretched with shorter hair and longer styles are all pretty much the same, only varying in how much layering is added. Wish I could do more with color but can't without ruining my hair. (Been there, done that. The end result was totally regretful.)

I got one of those 100 easy styles in 10 minutes books from the library. I was like are you kidding me?!?!? You already needed a TON of hair styling knowledge and more than half of the styles required someone else to do them to you. Ok if you're playing beauty parlor with your daughter but this was a book geared toward adults. I guess I could do the YouTube thing to learn but for some reason I've always hated looking up anything beauty related on there.

In strong agreement with triggering hair & symbolic hair. I have to tread very lightly, there. Especially because in a certain headspace I go there automatically, and I have to actively force myself not to.

LOL. My hair is my enemy. Fortunately? I like to toy with my enemies, so I've had a lot of fun with it over the years. ;)
