I voted sometimes, on a monthly basis. Because my son and I both suffer from PTSD, he recognizes my reactions and sometimes reminds me to breathe and focus when its getting the best of me. We help each other...
but my two younger children who do not have PTSD get worried and need to be assured. Most of the time they seem confused.

My PTSD sometimes makes me irritable and I am a little impatient with my son. He reminds me not to be that way when I am, otherwise I completely shield him from my symptoms. When I feel like sh*t, I put on a smile and play a game with him, or read to him. I don't let him see my flashbacks. If I am completely not functioning I make sure he's with someone safe. I protect him and try to give him the best childhood possible. Are we poor as a result of my PTSD, yes, but we don't need much. I'd say the biggest parenting mistake I make with him is being over protective at times. I have to remember not to be a helicopter parent.
