Evie Admitted To Hospital

I am back on much sooner than I thought. Reason being, I wanted to give a small update, as there has been excellent news. On her latest tests, Evie's abnormal cell count has declined by quite a bit. This means the chemotherapy is working and eliminating the cancer! We're very excited naturally. It's the first really good news we've had regarding the cancer thus far.

We haven't seen Evie for several days, due to us still having the flu and not wanting to give it to her. We have spoken to her on the telephone however, and she is doing well, and is in good spirits. She thanks everyone for their wishes and misses the forum.

VC, knowing Evie, she will likely roll her eyes at the strong comment, as she doesn't take compliments well. However I agree with you completely, she is very strong and it's important for her to accept and realize the impact she has on others. Thank you.

Glad to know Evie helps you to be strong VC. It's quite the compliment. She had better not roll her eyes about it.

It is indeed very exciting that she's getting better. However. Not surprised. I knew she had it in her!

Dear Cathy,
I wanted to respond to your comment, and wondered after reading something about batgirl how she was doing and looking for you I found this good news about Evie
She is indeed a very strong woman. Hope she’ll come home soon and that you can visit her soon again. Does she have a notebook or something in the hospital so she can be on the internet and sent you emails? Maybe she would like that. Maybe the hospital can provide her with a portable pc.

Thank you for your kind wishes Cathy and maus. Yes maus there is a computer in the family lounge at the hospital. Evie used it for the first time yesterday, but I believe she just sent a couple of emails to friends before she had to lay down again. She's still quite exhausted much of the time and needs to be assisted with walking, etc. We do hope to be visiting her again soon however, likely by Sunday for certain. The hospital is only a few blocks from where we are and the flu is the only thing keeping us from her. We do speak to her on the phone every day.

Happy St. Patricks day!!!! Please let her know that I wish her well and am more delighted about the prognosis of the Chemo. I wanted to cry....good tears!!!! Evie and your love of her brings me strength also. I don't think she realizes what a remarkable young lady she is. And you two are just AWESOME.

Thank you ever so much for the compliments Portabella. I agree Evie is remarkable in many ways, and we will relay the message to her. We appreciate the compliment to ourselves as well, but always feel rather humbled, as we are just doing our best - as we should do. Family support is something we simply take for granted. Families in rural Newfoundland are generally quite close knit, so it's a cultural thing too I suppose. It's very sad to me that family helping each other is such a novelty to many upon this forum.

Well Mum, with Liam and I, Rick and Angela now in town along with you and Dad, I think Evie's likely happy to be in hospital. Way too crowded and noisy here at home for her! I'm stoked about the good news... but how come no one tells me anything?!? Shit maybe I wasn't listening. Doh!

Well if you boys weren't so noisy it likely wouldn't be so bad for her! I'm sorry dear, I don't believe we did tell you the news, come to think of it.

Another short update. Evie had rather a rough night, though I want to make it clear to everyone at the start that she is perfectly fine now. So no worries please. To continue, she had been coughing quite badly, as she's just getting over pneumonia, and she suddenly stopped breathing, completely! She had to be intubated. It was quite frightening to receive the call from the doctor. My husband insisted on spending the entire night at the hospital with her, we couldn't convince him to rest at all. So today he's rather a grumpy bear and tired. Evie is breathing well again, but it's rather disconcerting, as they can't tell us why she stopped breathing, or if it will occur again. They are going to perform some lung examinations. Otherwise, she is as well as expected, quite recovered from it all and quite happy considering everything. She will be receiving 5 chemotherapy treatments in hospital this coming week, and then she will be finished for approximately 2 months! Her body needs a break. She's understandably excited for this round of chemo to be over with, and so are we.

She says hi to everyone, and is anxious to come back on here, and though there is a computer at the hospital, we are really trying to discourage her from using it too much. She still requires rest.
