Fabric Allergy Anyone?

experiment though with detergents first
Alba I am going to look at this again too. It is only some things and so shouldn't be but it may still lower my general levels. Not sure what else to try though as I swapped quite a bit. Tired of being itchy and rashy. I know I am not alone!

I found this organic clothing site: [DLMURL]http://www.bluecanoe.com/index.asp[/DLMURL] Something like that might help. Just make sure that if you have a reaction you can return the items.

I get irritated by some fabrics. Not as bad as when I was younger. My son had the same issues. I feel everything I am going to be wearing to make sure it doesn't make me want to scratch. Elastic can not touch my skin or I'll end up with red marks, light welts.

You might want to pay attention to where it is made too. If it is made in the same country, it may cause similar issues if the treatments for the fabric are the same. I know it seems crazy, but I remember getting two t-shirts from the same company and, yet, they were made in different countries. One was definitely softer then the other. Odd but true. The only difference between the t-shirts was suppose to be the color.

I hope you find what is irritating you.

The main thing irritating me is me Britt! :D

Thanks for that. Actually your idea about the country it is made in makes sense. That probably effects what they do with it more than the branding.

Sadly that site is in the states but I will look for something similar here. Sad as I liked one or two thing. I do well with bamboo when I can find it.

Underwear wise I can't have any synthetics and guess how many of them have at least 2 % synthetics?! Sooo annoying. Sorry you get this too. So itchy today....

Did you wash the new things before wearing them? I know I've gotten itchy from wearing things right off the rack. There's some treatment used to make the fabric easier to sew, but it comes out in the first washing. I'm not sure what it is, but it does seem to bother a lot of people.

Also...while I'm back at this thread reading other comments. If I'm in extra itchy mode I tend to do an extra rinse cycle on washes to make sure as much detergent as poss is out of the fabric...some fabric hold on to detergents better than others so might be worth trying to.

Was really glad to see you guys posted! Was thinking about posting again but then felt a little hesitant. :D

I bought a pair of trousers. 100 % cotton and guess what? The rest is fine but the band in the waist is a different fabric and that is where I have reacted. Spidarallis, I am going to give it a second wash and try it again. Digger, I will do an extra rinse cycle and see. Both good tips thank you.

Britt, Thanks for that info. That was sweet of you. Have started to look and will continue. Just wish I could figure out a definite idea of what will be a problem and what won't. Don't know if that is going to happen though! I also know my itching sensation wise is made much worse by psychological itching. I believe it is supposed to be related to anxiety. It gets worse when my sleep decreases more than usual.

Bamboo seems to agree with me. Unfortunately anything I find has some synthetic in it. Shall keep looking...

  • Synthetics definitely irritate me at times. Higher percentage higher chance but not always.
  • Detergents can be a problem
  • Pressure increases the irritation
  • Elastic is a problem as is wool.
So I have dyes and fabric treatments that are unknowns. Sorry. Seems the right place to put it.

Well @Lizio , I am astounded. Thank you. That was really interesting! I am hoping this isn't me but am going to check it out.

The new trousers are much improved after the second wash. I still have some itching but no irritation on a visual level. Happy about and with that! :)
