Well I worked on 2 different traumatic memories today. I got in touch with some real anger toward my abusers for the first time ever. that felt good. I am relieved and freed up from the trauma of the memory. I find it soothing. No headache. I am so glad I did this. It is really helping me. It is empowering me. I feel and like myself better. I am amazed how it helps to take the ugliness out of the memory for me. I actually feel like I am healing from these memories.

My therapist said I am a good candidate for this. She said it is an honor to work with me. I like her so much. She is so kind and gentle and reminds me to breathe. This is the first time therapy has actually done some real good for me. I feel so much better.

Thanks Bubba and Redd1 for the great feedback. I get 12 sessions with my HMO. If I need a few more sessions it can be arranged. I won't be having another session for about 3 weeks. I was hoping I would get them once a week, but I guess they are very busy. I just got lucky that the HMO does emdr. They do not have therapists that deal with ptsd. Their therapists are cognitive behavior therapists. I will have to hunt for a therapist after I am done with the emdr. I hope to taper off some of my meds.

It would be nice to not need medications. But I think as long as the anxiety holds out I will still be taking them. This forum has helped me to overcome a driving phobia I have had for a year. And it gave me the courage to try emdr. It is the best thing I have ever experienced in therapy. It is really helping me so very much.

Hurrah Gizmo! Is it just EMDR that the HMO limits? Or is it therapy in general? If you can do more CBT after - perhaps with the same T - who is to say what you do in the session? CBT is the usual adjunct and follow up to EMDR in any case.

Eleanor and Piratelady, My HMO limits the emdr to 12 sessions and mabe a few extra sessions if needed. Their therapists do not deal with ptsd, I already asked. I will ask about CBT and see what anwer i get.
The therapists are trained for cognative behavior only. I was surprised they did emdr. But just in case I will ask. Good idea. I hope so. That would be great. thank you.
