Just got back, you are correct @gamereign555 . Effexor was developed by Wyeth (later bought by Pfizer) in 1993 as a type of antidepressant called an "SNRI" (or Serotonin-Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor).
SSRIs and SNRIs are somewhat similar, except the latter also blocks the neurotransmitter that causes anxiety attacks.
The patent for Effexor expired in 2006, but not before the FDA finally decided to force a "black box" warning on the labels in 2004 (several years after the FDA first considered the multiple reports of suicidal thoughts and severe health damage). There are some difference between Effexor and Effexor XR, beyond the fillers, which cause respectively separate and opposite side effects.
Apologies for dropping the ball. My folks had told me it was an antipsychotic; I'd forgotten that it took lying to them about "the knives in the kitchen drawer were singing to me", before they finally did something after 6 months of Risperidone no longer working.
Not one of my finer moments, but I got the job done.
