Trip to the garden

The mint by the gate is going crazy 😊

All the berries are weighed down and thankfully the blueberry branches didn’t snap!!

Currant berries didn’t turn red yet but they are full

Gotta get strawberries off the dirt they are not ruined but dirty and probably will get ruined asap …not red yet

Looks like new leaves on the zucchini’s!

Tomato plants bigger… still small tho thankfully they grow into fall here

Pepper plants look okay. Eaten up a lil :/

Red clover gorgeous and I will harvest some today for tea (and ate one)

There’s a gypsy/traveler crew that’s come through and sprayed/seeded poison around about 1/3 of the neighborhood, selling ‘pest removal’. The EEDJITS -my neighbors- that paid for our cats/dogs to be killed I am currently attempting not to throttle. I got them -the travelers- to direct elsewhere… but I am pissed the hell off. The rain will wash most of the poison away, within a few days/weeks, but the soil will still leech it for months/years.

I bought my kid a bunch of these >>> Grow Bags 6Pack - 10 Gallon Potato Grow Bags with Window to Harvest, Thickened Fabric Pots with Handles <<< so he can get some food crops in, even at someone else’s home, without f*cking up their property.

Container gardening is kind of my Schtick… but these collapsible windowed totally portable devices??? OMFG. SO MUCH BETTER than hard plastic of the same volume. Because they’re clearly designed TO be moved/temporary… so they don’t irk (others) as they’re set on a sunny patch of concrete, or in a back corner.

It almost? Feels like ninja-gardening! 🤣

I have some squash volunteers. I don’t remember what they are from. I think maybe I threw some acorn squash seeds out there last year? As far as I know acorn squash don’t grow very well here and these are far behind where they *should* be for this time of year. Also, they are obviously quite crowded. Since I don’t care whether they produce or not I’m just letting them do their thing. Would be lovely to have some vines climbing again—am a huge fan of vines—have grown morning glories, sweet potato, and yard long bean here.

I’m also experimenting with letting them stay crowded. A long time ago my ex planted chili seeds way too close and we never got around to thinning them and over time the best ones survived and we had huge bumper crops and the plants survived for years and they hybridized with each other—it was a lot of fun and I learned about chilies.

I think about how in the wild a fruit or flower will fall and a bunch of babies grow and over time they thin themselves—like a marble race, only a few take the lead. Not a very efficient process for industrial farming but enjoyable to watch on a small scale.
