I am no stranger to nightmares/flashbacks, believe me. I have had nightmares on an-every-other to daily basis, and the flashbacks probably around thrice a week. However, last night, something new came up: I started seeing things. These hallucinations were so vividly reality I felt like I could reach over and touch one. They were more just shapes/shadows of objects with subtle tints to their color, but I could clearly tell what/who they were. Obviously I understand that this is not a classification of "normal," but I was wondering if anyone else living with PTSD has had anything like this.

And what were your feelings at this time @MaltOMeal? Do you remember? I feel for myself like it is more the feeling that goes along with the images rather than just the images themselves.

I had just woken up from a nightmare, so I was not in the clearest state of mind... The images just seemed so real; it was awful.

Personally I think I would classify it as normal @MaltOMeal. It wasn't a normal situation that got you where you are now but it is normal that your essence is trying to make sense of it so you can work through it. Interesting that you knew exactly who they were.

I would see this as a 'I am wanting to do something with this if you could feel you could reach over and touch them. Maybe you are being given the choice as to whether you truly want to or not because along with this choice will come some negative feelings. I strongly believe though that it will help you reach freedom. Do you have a counselor at all?

Sounds hypnagogic if it's when falling asleep or coming out of sleep.

I hallucinated after a year of severe sleep deprivation. It was awful. Catching up on sleep and lowering stress helped significantly.

Sometimes sleep paralysis can cause you to hallucinate when you've just woken up from a dream, or when you're falling asleep. I've experienced it on numerous occasions- the same exact thing, tinted shapes/silhouettes that seemed completely tangible. It's actually unrelated to PTSD- even "normal" people get it.
