I spent all day today (7 hours) at police stations, courthouses, and the sheriffs department trying to get someone to enforce the TRO I have on my ex! The system sucks.
After finally getting a copy of the proof of service, I sat for over 3 hours at the local PD waiting for an officer so I could tell them my ex did not turn in his guns. No one cared at all. I got an officer to call him and ask him if he still had his guns. He did of course.
The officer came out and told me that my ex was bringing the guns into the station and that basically that's all there was to it. Well, no, that's not it. My ex was in violation of the restraining order for not turning them in within the first 24 hours of being served. Did the police care? No. And they refused to file a police report. They merely filed an "interview" report. That means they talked to me.
So once again, my ex broke the law and got away with it.
The system is set up to protect the offender and to keep the victim from being able to do anything at all.
