Hearing Loss With Dissociation?

Does anyone else experience some loss of hearing when they're dissociating/emotionally distressed? I've had two different types: one is a whirring, almost like a fan blowing or white noise that makes the other person sound slightly muted. The other is that my ears will ring and then blank out for a moment, no sound at all, and generally take a bit to hear well after.

One of the things I do for my healing is bodywork. I work with an amazing woman who is probably the most centered, open, and kind people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. She has told me before that she is a trauma survivor, and it makes me hopeful that I could one day be on her level of openness and relaxation around others. Diversion aside, we've started a new approach of slowing down and "unwinding" my fear/panic responses to being touched/close to others. *Poss. Trigger* This sometimes involves her touching areas where I know I hold MAJOR distress/emotion, last week she touched my neck and we're not doing that one again for a while, but there's also a spot on my back that counts in this category. I saw her today and we worked on that back spot and other parts and I was feeling very emotional, which is relatively common for me when I get bodywork. Then, I had the ears ringing thing and had to ask her to speak up for a bit while it dissipated. I also realized after the appt. that I've had that ringing/hearing loss sensation after sex.

When I zone out I do lose most of the world (sight/ sound/ taste/ temp/ touch/ etc.)... But the description you give sounds more like low blood pressure. Like the kind that precedes fainting. Ever checked you BP when one of these episodes is happening?

No, but that's an excellent point. I have no history of fainting but I do have a history of low blood pressure and I know that's commonly associated with fainting. Thanks.

I'm with you there I have noticed that when I'm frustrated/annoyed or emotionally tense then I don't hear nearly as well. Sometimes it seems like they are talking on a phone and I only hear them very faintly and words are kind of mushed together at times as well.
