Heat=panic Attack...any Other Oif/oef Vets Experience This?

Heat for me sometimes triggers me to think about Iraq. Often it's at night when the house is warm. The old lady is cold and cranks up the heat. I am always checking to keep it off. If I wake up hot, I freak out, and think I'm back in that shit hole. Takes a minute or two to realize where I am. :confused:

I remember the first time I smelt Baghdad. One of the guys in my truck asked if someone farted. :ROFLMAO:

I'm fine for the most part in the day time (Did all night missions in Iraq, with a handful of day and early morning missions.) When I first arrived at home it was summer and they were doing road construction kicking up large amounts of dust. That really put me back in the "I'm still at war" mindset. It was very difficult at times to drive. Hell, I still avoid driving at night because I don't want the IED monster to eat me. I even put the brightest on road and off road lights on my vehicle that I could.

High temps coupled with high humidity get me every time. Full shade on these days is okay by me. If there is a breeze, no problem. Still, windless days with that sort of weather puts me over the edge. Oddly, the desert or the badlands in any weather give me know problems. In fact, the BLM areas of Death Valley is my favorite place on earth, even in summer.

What I hated about Baghdad was that unwashed arse smell that crept up every afternoon about 4 pm.

The other f*cked up thing was the two seasons. f*cking hot for six months, then the wind would blow for two weeks and I mean blow, it blew one of our OP's of the top of Baath Party HQ. Then it gets wet and cold, real cold. The rain washes all the dirt and scum away. f*cked up place to live.

Don't forget about how the rain turned everything to cement mud in Baghdad...ugh:mad:. I have a funny story about one of those times, if you would like to hear about it ;)

If I don't sleep with the AC set to 60 degrees, I feel so uneasy that I cannot sleep, and if I do fall asleep then I get flashback nightmares. I went camping with a friend in Hawaii last month, and I was wigging out half the time.

Not so much the heat since it happens in the dead of winter too but sweating is a trigger for me makes my anxiety and anger kick in big time and then I sweat even more, the worst is if it starts happening while standing in line in a store. I abosutely hate the feeling of sweat running down my freakin face. Hell I shave my head to try and make it better because my hair used to get soaked and I looked even more like a sweaty beast, now I just look like a sweaty skinhead with a full beard. I train like a demon but nothing seems to help, once I start sweating in a public place its over. On a side note I shower twice a day and its just my head that sweats which runs down my face which makes me want to Hulk smash.:mad: On another side note I finally hit post reply instead of holding down the back space key like I do 90% of the time. Awesome.:cautious:

Hey Chem...

For me sweating is a symptom.

There are topical prescriptions available for control of the sweat glands. They work really well. In addition to my long list of messed-uppednesses I suffer from excessive sweating of the palms and soles of the feet known as Palmer Hyperyydrosis. Had this since I was a kid.

Talk with your doctor on the subject, he may be able to help.

Also, I suggest you start keeping a "trigger log". Just make a note of every time you have an issue. I think over time you will find the sweating is a symptom or perhaps an indicator of an anxiety episode.

They make some pretty good off the shelf powders that don't stink all girly and help control sweat too. (Baby powder makes me angry...LOL)

During the summer here, or wet season, our humidity is off the scale. I sweat in airconditioning lol.
I just deal with it, I don't think I could take medication for sweating, I am on enough as it is.

Speaking about medications, check out some of your medications, some adverse side effects are sweating.

Nothing to take. There are "lotion" types and "dust" types.
