Seriously Tim, and no I am not trying to wind you up or take the piss. It is something that does intrest me, because like you said, "We do not Understand" allthough I may well for my part never understand the reasons.
.................Nonetheless, I am less fearful of crowds when I am carrying my .45 ACP (Colt Combat Commander)...................
What do you think a Crowd is going to do, that makes you carry a gun?
The Colt Commander rigged for .45ACP has a 7 round clip, (as I believe) If a crowd is going to do anything, and for me a crowd is 20+, what are you actualy going to be able to do?
You will probably be looking at double tapping to ensure the target goes down, which gives you on a good day 4 targets down. Providing you would be quick enough before you were over run.
Realisticaly, with a crowd that is bent on getting you, you are looking at 2 targets downed before you are over run.
So what is the up side to carrying?
If you had it where it could be seen, to intimidate, that I could understand because people would be more inclinded to leave you alone and keep their distance, but having it concealed no body knows you have it. And knowing that you aren`t going to make a real dent in a crowd with 7 rounds, it just seems a waste of time.
.................but the right to bear arms is deeply ingrained in the American psyche............
This is also something that we often hear. But is it realy? If it is, then it would surely mean that every American would carry one or at least the majority. And we know that is not the case. I dare say, that the majority of families in the US do not have a gun.
So just how ingrained is it? And exactly who is "Permitted" to claim that right?
As I understand, a convicted felon is not allowed to have a gun and therefore looses the right to bear arms. (I may be wrong on that, but that is how it come across)
There are also other countries around the world who no doubt claim to have the same right! That there have been guns in the family cupboard for hundreds of years. And that they therefore should be able to keep them to protect themselves and family.
But how many weapons get taken off Civvy Afghan families or Iraqi`s or any other`s come to that like in Bosnia and Kosovo, who have had a gun in the house for a long time before 2000 and in many case`s for nigh on 100 years, for there own protection. And are not Military minded or members of a terrorist organisation.
This seem to be rather two faced when you consider the right to bear arms then seems to be a Right that only "Certian" American`s are allowed. It would definitely seem to be a case of Pot and Kettle in my opinion. And therefore surely destroys the foundations on which the Right to Bear Arms is laid.
