lol Jar... thought about your post and imagined doing the circle in to clearance to land... ya... bout the size of a postage stamp from the air! to think they had the B-52's and B-1B's there is mind boggling.. it musta been like taking off from a carrier deck in one of those things!

Midway is the same. Runway, Island, a few buildings and those hysterical Gooney Birds. I could watch them for hours (that's probably the only entertainment on the island). I was going into the dining hall and heard a thud. Turned to look and this crazy damn Gooney Bird had tried to take off the roof of the building and took a header right into the grass.

Only reason we were there in the first place is we sucked a Gooney into one of the engine intakes. Plays hell with the turbine blades.

Any of you guys ever had the pleasure of landing on the Rock? Gibralter that is.

Seeing as Brit Aircraft landing there are not allowed into Spanish Airspace on the one side, and the Rock itself on the other, and water at both ends of the runway. Landings are very intresting.

The Brit part is only 3 mile long (from the bottom tip to the red line which is the Spanish Border) and the runway, well see for yourselves.

Another good one is the Azores.

I put a pic in of Diego Garcia...the entire base is on the right side of the pic under the white cloud. If you google it you can find more images that show how the runway is literally surrounded by water.

ooops...double post....see below

Hee, hee, won $100 on their quarter machine at the BOQ. Clerk was pissed. He's been plugging quarters in that thing and not getting a dime out and I walked in, plugged in a quarter, BAM! All his quarters!

Other than that, yeah, sheer rock clifts, 20 ft swells and an airstrip. Wet and cold.

Hey everyone, thanks for the greetings and comments. Yup born and raised on Guam, joined the military in '05 and got out in '09. Going to school full time now here in Texas. Guam is paradise for some and hell for others (people that hate island life). I stopped in the Azores once going through to England, given I was there for 3 hours it looked like a nice place. Being a gun owner (not lover) TX is paradise!

I spent 4 hours sleeping on my pack in a hangar waiting for a flight. It was the middle of the wet/humid season.
