Sufferer Hi. I'm Hanna and I have pts. I thought to look for others who get it.

Hi everyone. I'm new here. I have post traumatic stress from many years ago. I have been through cbt and emdr therapy after my symptoms became unmanageable. That was a few years ago and I have come a long ways in this struggle. I guess that even though I made so much progress it just feels a bit lonely sometimes.
Others don't really understand. The media (articles and videos) just repeats to get to a doctor and treat it. But, I have. This is a life long condition that I am already managing. I can't make my brain function as if I were never traumatized. It will always perceive and process differently.
So, I thought to look for others who get it. Like how post therapy there will be hard times. Times when we get down, feel overwhelmed and out of control. Times when taking care of ourselves is all we can manage else our pot will boil over. Times when seeing another therapist is pointless because we've heard it all before.
Times when we know exactly what we can not say even though we know we wouldn't do anything. Because a forced "vacation" is not my idea of fun or helpful for that matter.
Anyway, it's nice to meet others like myself. It's nice to meet you all.

Welcome to the forums!

Just curious, have you seen this article? The ptsd cup explanation

I read it real quick. Thank you. I'm familiar with the overflow cup theory as well. It is a wonderful way to explain this to someone that wants to try to understand. Reading the article is also good reminder to keep listening to my body and take care of it as I go through life. I can't change what happened to me but, I can control what I do for myself.

Hi @HannaD, welcome to the forums.

Thank you. I appreciate the welcome very much.

Hi Hanna.

I’m sorry circumstances have lead you to be in this kind of group.

Re having heard it all before, it’s tiresome isn’t it? Not so much hearing it again but for me thinking it over and over and needing to re go through that thought process so regularly of hearing the same therapeutic stuff or repeating it to myself. Honestly, I am bored of myself and boredom and poor thought processes make terrible bedfellows I think!

I hope you find things that help here.
