When I first found out I was going to have my eighth and final leg surgery a vietnam veteran from my combat PTSd group, offered to let me stay at his house while i recuperated (even now it has been one month and 7 days since surgery and i am still not allowed to drive). Anyway he said it was his wife's idea, who I had also met and who I really thought was a great person.
So I went ahead and had to surgery and then they picked me up at the hospital and the first day and a half everything seemed okay. Of course i was sort of out of it from pain medications but I did not notice anything strange.
by the third day I started to feel extremely uncomfortable..Everytime this veteran was out of the ear shot of his wife he would make some raunchy sexual comment to me like about how his horse was all happy because he had gotten a little P**s*y the night before. And he would make other comments about different women on tv and how happy there husbands must be to be "hitting that" every night.
The kicker came on the fourth day though when I decided I would go to the grocery store with them...even though I was on crutches and all that I needed to get out of that house a bit. Right at the last minute though, after I was already loaded into the car, his wife myseriouely decided she had a phone call to make and was not going to go. So he jumped in the car and took off without her. When we got to the parking lot of the grocery store he parked at the one end where there was not alot of trafic and he acted like he was going to help me get out of the back seat although I told himI could manage getting the seatbelt undone my self. But he insisted and next thing I know he is feeling me up in my chest area and his hand was getting ready to go south when i strted screaming bloody murder. That must have scared him because he must have beeen afraid someone would hear me because he immediately stopped did not even go in the grocery store and we went straight home although he made one comment about iif I "had just relaxed i might have njoyed a little fun". When we got home his own wife did not even question why there was no groceriesw which makes me think she knew exactly what was going to happen. So that I packed the one bag I had, packed my meds, and slung my bag over my shoulder and crutched out about 200-250 meters to the main road where I called a taxi to come and get me. I firoze my rear off waiting for the taxi but finally they came and i came home and stayed on my own until a nighbor who I can trust said I could stay with er and her hisband (9they are 90 years old....not much of a threat).
Anyway this guy had always told me he had a daughter but she had nothing to do with him beccause of PTSD. I got curious about a week ago and started looking up sex offender lists forst in my own state and the in florida where I knew he lived for thirty years prior to moving back here three years ago. Finally I found what I was looking for in florida. He had been convicted back in 1989 of sexual misconduct with a minor child and also with fondling her and all sorts of other sick crap.
I had no idea this guy was such a perv. I thought he was a nice guy. I tired to talk to my combat PTSD group facilitator about it and she just said that Vietnam Vets haev very sdiffferent attitudes towars sex than men do nowadays. she said I should try to understandwhere he was coming from. She even said she would mediate a meeting between he and I. Now apparently everything I have written here is exzactly what he has told her...yet somehow people are fooled into thinking this is normal. And I am supposed to sit down and listen to WHY this is normal?????NOPE DON"T think so.
Anyway I just wanted to share than little story with thsoe on here who may have had similar experiences. I haev contacted my congressman, the same one who after reviewing my military records and seeing how I was wounded ended up getting me my surgery threee weeks later, and I have let him know that I now have to PTSD group to go to and that I felt the facilitaator was more concerned with this other veterans lies and perversions than she is with my truths and my hurt due to having my trust betrayed. So I guess we wil see what will happen.
Anyway just wanted anyone out there in a similar situation to know what has happened to others of us and you are not alone. No one who touches another person iwithout permission is ever okay.
