Hi,

Oh my. I hope you're still there? I remember one member a few months ago joined, and wrote about how she was ALL BETTER, and how she felt she was obligated to share her insights with those still suffering, etc. I can't say for anyone else, but remember being not incredibly thrilled to have all this energy bouncing in saying I could be alllll better if I just made up my mind and worked at it. Sigh.I think it's possibly just presentation, plus, it's really a hugely well-run forum, and kept that way by some no-nonsence saftey measures. Cool for all of us!

Yours is different, I know, and the offer to share information will be taken up, I am sure. There's a LOT of information here in the library, but I know I have a question on some long-term 'stuff' I'd be very interested to hear of there's any new work on, or information about. I hope to see you're still logging in tomorrow! Today I'm trying to get myself OUT of the house- always a PTSD challenge in my little world, but hope to see you back sometime soon.

Anni

I've got to say that I'm wary of someone who is not yet accredited offering advice and assistance because not only do some people here trust too rarely, some people trust too quickly. Any advice you give may be well meaning, and may be good advice based on the knowledge you currently have, but it doesn't mean that it is good advice to be giving to someone. We know any advice given by our peers here is to be taken with a grain of salt, and to be double-checked with our therapists, but you are coming in saying that you are treating patients already and have all this information for us so you are basically putting yourself on the same level as our therapists in our minds. This can lead to bad even if you are who you say you are, and if you aren't, it can lead to very very very bad.

I'm sure that you have a lot of great information that can be shared, and that's awesome because you can credit the sources that you've received that from (which should be peer reviewed) and we can take that info the same way we do with the stuff anthony posts. Advice though, I'm really scared of seeing come from you. That's just personal though, so please don't let what I'm feeling stop you from trying to do what you can to help, just know that I won't be accepting any advice from you, and I'm sorry for that but I'm not trusting enough for it.

OK, so the message I'm getting is that I came on too strong for some of you and that it just feels weird to have me on here since I'm neither experiencing PTSD nor caring for someone who is. These are points well taken.

Psych studies are constantly being run and lots of important results are out there... knowledge that could possibly help people... and I personally think it's a shame that so much of this info ends up in obscure professional journals that the public rarely gets to see. What does trickle down into the mainstream media is usually so dumbed-down or sensationalized that the essence has been lost.

I wish there was a way to find a shortcut that connected people with unbiased information. I thought this might be the place, but I see how it's too problematic.

Given the right we all have to remain safe on this site, it looks like I can't really say much more... which is too bad, because I came up with a spiffy legal line to add to the end of each post!

Flex, I think members have been trying to explain to you their hesitation & caution. No one has said you are not welcome here - they are just asking for you to verify yourself & that will take time. Nothing else. You can still post & offer your insight but some may not respond in the way you expect until they feel comfortable. This is something you can face anywhere in life.

What amazes me, given your stated knowledge, is that you are not being empathetic to the honesty being shared with you and instead act defensive and inadvertently attack the site by saying it is the wrong place. I am sorry but I believe you are wrong and I also believe your research to date has not presented you with the opportunity to be privy to the 'real people' side of PTSD.

IMHO I recommend you actually need to work on your people skills with people who have PTSD.

Now, after reading your post I am more reluctant to trust you as I would have thought the smartest reaction would be to ease your way in and earn people's trust by being here regularly and posting - to demonstrate a willingness to meet members half way rather than just turn your back due to not being met with open arms.

Flex... I have my own opinions, and after reading your last post considering the amount of grilling you are being given by others, I think actually demonstrated exactly what attitude needs to be more off here. Welcome to the forum.

Very well stated, direct, I did not read any attacking or aggressive tones within your context. I am happy to have you share your knowledge with others. Yes, some may be defensive, though as long as you conform to the rules at all times, you will be fine, just like all others. I have allowed psych students here before who wanted to help, wanted to learn... more off it is needed IMHO.

Flex,

I am always curious about what people do for a living and why they decide to go take the path they do. Your previous posts note that you have worked with Veterans and you are currently treating people. My guess is that you are a master's level clinician who is working on their doctorate maybe? I say maybe as it is possible for someone to be working on a master's part time and be in the third year depending on progress. I was wondering if it is MA, M.Ed., Psy.D., Ph.D. etc. and what would you like to do with your education and training when you are finished? For instance, where do you see yourself working when all is completed?
