I just really hate the fact that I need help.

Reading what you said seems so familiar. Unfortunately I am currently in a similar boat looking for my own way out, but your experience is at least not unique to you alone, which might help with some of it. I think I know many things about how you feel and felt, about all the different events you mentioned.

Yesterday, an ambulance was called for me due to my shaking in my voice and my hands that stems from my current stressful and unfamiliar situation, even though I feel shaking actually helps express it away in some way. Of course my neighbors saw me getting in there. I too being a super private person at least before, just had the ambo driver tell me that "If I need help I really need to call them", me having a medical bracelet on and a hole in my arm from a blood sample. The optics were pretty stereotypical for someone who is having issues. Some random dude, who I don't know and was forced to walk past the ambulance, heard a lot of it. In the past I would have been so embarrassed. Now I feel like I can handle it. It was not on me, and I have come to realize most people might be unaware but are not evil, and it was unavoidable and people there don't really remember who I was, but for sure some of my next door neighbors, due to it being summer, had their windows open and heard too much for my liking. Even that right now feels like, because I feel I have understood or given up on a lot of that as well, like what people think and so on, which is so unlike what I was like in the past.

My personal issue right now is that I have changed so much from before that everything feels scary and unfamiliar. The fact that I took this so we'll is scary to me, which is funny in a sense. What happened with you would be much more familiar to me. I'm like in an anti-panic panic, where I feel I perhaps should not feel embarrassment about but would have in the past or something, but now don't. I am uncertain if I am blocking the real effects and they will hit like in two weeks during the night, or if I really am alright with this now, and what that means in every possible way. Not sure if my side makes any sense to you, but know that I have been where you are, very much so, and then if you ever feel panicky about not having panic and about being more normal and sensible, then you have arrived where I am now, which I guess hopefully will help you in your future.

People talk and make assumptions. Some more than others. Some don't care or will care in good ways and in bad ways. I guess finding the ones who understand is pretty important. Sounds like your man is one of those people who for some reason will support you through this. That's hopefully a really nice thing to enjoy once things settle down. We also understand you to a large degree, some older people might even understand you more than you do yourself right now, which might also help a lot.

Your post was the first I dared to read here after just arriving and it resonated. I am hopefully more hopeful now. I hope you are too, soon.

Please, I just wanna know… how much worse should I expect this to get before it gets better?
It always gets worse before it gets better with trauma... but the good news is, it has to get worse before it gets better, so you're on the path now, ride it out and trust the process. You really do have to hit the bottom of the barrel, pretty much, and then fight your way up. As you climb out of it though, it gets infinitely better, which means a better life for you.

Thank you. That gives me a bit of hope, even though the process feels like it’s gonna take forever some days.

It gets better. It then goes away. But it leaves the truth , that you then have to integrate, that I found the hardest part. But the physical relief and the end of mystery ailments and conflict is fantastic . But you will grieve the false self and reality you built for yourself but the trauma is over . Unless you’re unlucky and it happens again . Which can happen . But not likely

Hi, I’m new here. Wish I wasn’t in this situation, but I am.

I started therapy in February this year. Not my idea, really. My man wanted me to go and offered to pay for it, too. I didn’t really want to, but ended up agreeing to do it just to get some peace and quiet around here. So I just picked a cute one and figured I’d go there and rant about my man for a few sessions, maybe 3 or 4. I thought that ought to do it, and then I’d be able to go home and say that I’d been «working on my issues» and all would be hunky-dory. It was a good plan.

Only that’s not what ended up happening. After a few nice, calm sessions this guy started asking me some pretty confrontational questions about my past - which I, and God help me for doing this, actually answered honestly. It is still a mystery to me why I would do such a thing. I’m a very private person, and I would never ever share anything that I’d be ashamed to admit, like say, that I was raped. But there I was, spilling the beans - with details and everything. What the f… ??!

After that, things started going downhill in a big, f*cking hurry. Because then I started remembering other traumatic events, too. Lots of them. I wasn’t even aware that those things had happened to me, quite honestly, because I had completely forgotten. And then I started dissociating pretty heavily, to the point of rendering me unable to think or speak with any level of clarity. Soon after that, I was having flashbacks and panic attacks. Basically, I was becoming a complete mess and it wasn’t possible to hide it anymore.

So yesterday, I was writing in my journal (my trauma journal, yes. Helps me keep track of all this crap) and suddenly I start having a big panic attack. It was so bad, I ended up calling my boyfriend’s mother, who was very kind and came rushing to help me. As she entered the yard to our house, she literally found me in the stairway puking into the pavement. God, what a humiliating display that was. My neighbors might have seen it, too. And I haven’t even started processing any of my trauma yet...

Please, I just wanna know… how much worse should I expect this to get before it gets better?

(I’ve got a good psychologist. We’re working through this, but it’s kind of a slow process.)
It’s better to handle it now than later in life. I read the book Complex ptsd, from surviving to thriving. Pete-Walker.com it may help.
Best wishes
