If You'd To Describe Your Life After Ptsd, What Would You Say?

I had what was perceived as a great life! When the PTSD hit I went down the toilet. Lost the job, my marriage, my home, and my children. The darkest time in my life! I did not think I could live through it. Many hospitalizations. Loads of therapy and 8 years later still not there but life is much better. I own a home again and my children are back. I surround myself with family and friends when I am not in isolation. I continue to work at my recovery if there is such a thing. Been doing trauma EMDR and at first did thought I took a down turn but things have settled down. The past couple weeks I am much better. Hoping I can only go up!

Before PTSD it felt like I was in charge of my life. I did what I wanted, when and how I wanted to do it. All of that was taken from me. Now I feel that the PTSD runs me. The dissociation is always there, I almost always feel in a dream state. I guess the biggest change is that I do not feel real anymore. I can't explain.

Partly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of rain. But the weekly outlook is better, and being as how meteorologists can be wrong 50% of the time and still get paid, I'll take those odds and appreciate the sunshine as it appears.

Reader's Digest version:
Pre-treatment: Angry, screaming, controlling, job-hopping, suicidal
Post-treatment: Calm, care for others & self, can admit my mistakes, enjoy life, still have hyper-startle which T says will likely not go away
Note: Cannot state strongly enough -Please find a trauma-trained therapist to help you through PTSD.
