Inpatient Therapy

I wanted to know if anyone here has done inpatient therapy, like a 30 day facility, not just a hospital. I'm such an emotional wreck now. I can't get out of it. And, yes I am in therapy. My husband thinks it would be best for me to 'go away' for a bit. I think he's trying to get rid of me, but he says he just wants me to get better. I've been researching and have only found a few places. I live in south TX and the closest place I can find is in Dallas. I would love to hear others experiences. Thanks!

Hi Ruby Taco, welcome to the site. In an emotional turmoil it is so hard to see things as they are, even to trust that your husband wants the best for you. In such a state, all need time out to be nurtured and taken care of - if you can access such care that is a bonus and can be very healing. Therapy is great but sometimes not enough to get us to the next level. Go with what is best for you. Wish you all the best, x

Well there is a difference between "just a hospital" and a psychiatric hospital which has a trauma ward. I went to Sheppard Pratt and there I learned almost all of my CBT skills. I had multiple group therapy sessions a day, as well as 3 individual sessions a week, and daily visits with the psychiatrist. This is pretty much the max you'll get if you go to a place that accepts insurance as that's about all insurance will pay for.

I'm not really looking to go to a trauma ward. Using insurance or not doesn't really matter at this point. There is a place in TN called Brookhaven that I am looking at. It's just for women, which I think would be nice as well.

I did 104 days inpatient at the National Center for PTSD Palo Alto VA, Menlo Park campus. I have been in PTSD groups with a lot of people who attended 30 day programs, frequently repeating the program annually. The first, and perhaps hardest lesson is that you have to participate fully in the program. Nobody is going to fix you. It's your job to learn to manage your case of PTSD with therapeutic support. A good program will have classes on understanding PTSD and the physical processes involved, and classes in how to manage symptoms. Those classes should be PTSD group sessions. There should be an individual or focused small group aspect in which you address specific traumas in detail. The end result should be a feeling of confidence in your ability to manage your behavior appropriately in your current situation with the old stuff (intrusive thoughts and feelings) in the background.

Gotcha. You're looking for more of a spa experience. I have a "friend" who went that route as well, and for her, too, money was no object. Sorry you don't like my advice. It worked for me.

I didn't say I was looking for a spa experience or that I didn't like your advice. I'm sorry you took it that way. All I'm looking for is a place that I can focus on my recovery without the stresses of home. I will continue therapy when I get home. Right now, I can't even handle any type of conflict without freaking out.[DOUBLEPOST=1345331304][/DOUBLEPOST]Thanks for your post Ted. It helps ALOT!!!

@Lucy - going through and sorting out the trauma is EXACTLY what I want to do. I'm tired of living like this.
