Just thought i should introduce myself,

My name is Anthony , I am 24 years old and live in Tasmania , Australia

I served with the Australian Army as an infantry Rifleman to begin with
Posted originally to the 5/7th Battalion (MECH) of the Royal Australian Regiment(RAR) and later to 7RAR (MECH)

I deployed twice to Afghanistan , the first time in late 2006 as a Lead Scout, the second in late 2008 as an Infantry Section commander . i discharged very soon after returning from the second deployment.

My ptsd mostly developed from my second deployment and has been a pretty f*cked up couple of years but I am getting a bit more control now.

Looking forward to reading and learning as much as possible and contributing where i can.

Thanks,

Anthony

Welcome, sounds like you where hairy situations. On my 3rd deployment (Afghanistan) we relied on your medivac a lot. We by trained skill set are artillery, however on all 3 deployments we were dismounted infantrymen. If there is one thing I can say about Australia your fighter helicopter had a minigun and the gunner used it like a champ. I cannot express how grateful I was to see your guys. My neighbor is a scout and I can see the toll it has taken on him, it’s not easy. So I say cheers to you! we fight together, we struggle together, we laugh together.

Thanks for all the welcome messages fellas,

things are looking better at this end... I have been having pretty steady progress over the last few months and I'm in a pretty good spot at the moment mentally (compared to what i was).

marc, I'm not sure what choppers we have there currnetly but I'm pretty sure we only run chinooks there so might have been someone elses gunship... that said the chinooks have a minigun.

we struggled with getting air when we needed it occasionally , let down by the dutch AME that was in the area, the US blackhawk/Apache combo came to our rescue which was always welcome , so it goes both ways!
