For anxiety I have tried beta blockers maybe ask your doctor about that. It deals with symptoms not the cause do they were not really what I needed. Hope this helps

The SSRI class of drugs offer less risk of dependence compared with the benzodiazepines. However, they take longer to become effective so are not recommended for acute anxiety, the side effects can be worse and they tend to be more expensive. You might want to look into some natural treatments as well.

the underlying issue of how I ended up on the bones of my arse is still unresolved.

No medication will resolve this, it will only help to alleviate the symptoms.

One med is called Buspar. It takes awhile to build up in your system so must be taken daily. Another med is Vistaril. It is related to Benadryl and I think it can be taken as needed, but I'm not sure. Then there are antipsychotics which can help with anxiety. There are more out there, but these are the ones I have experience with.

PS I was the one who mentioned other meds.

Most of us want to help. Sorry for the delayed response as I'm doing other things as well. If you need medication, just ignore those who tell you meds are bad, not a cure, etc. Medication serves a valid place for many of us, and honestly, a lot of people can't see that as their symptoms are controllable simply through the use of coping skills. Sadly, my anxiety can't always be controlled via coping and I do need medication at times.

@PortiaWA - attacking a whole community of people while asking for their help is unnecessary and quite honestly ridiculous.

a lot of you are the "woe is me" crowd with actually no inclination of helping anyone but your own fragile egos.
Yeah--f*ck you!
Swearing at and attacking individuals will not be tolerated

Also if you are replying to someone, make sure you direct your response at the right person. BrokenGlass did not mention non-dependant anti anxiety medications. If you want help, advice and support from others here, follow the forum rules, which you agreed to upon registration. If you don't want to be a part of this community, then don't post. Attacking people here will get you no-where.

The Vistaril can be taken as needed, thanks for mentioning that one Solara.

I looked into this medication, and found an article on it from psychology today.
It states it's non-habit forming.

I've been prescribed all kinds of medications for acute, extreme and long lasting anxiety attacks, that lead me to collapse. I'm always afraid of getting addicted to them.

The ones that also function as an anti-depressant have horrible side affects on me.

I've stopped taking meds altogether for months now.

I'm going to ask my GP about this one next week.

I really dont want to be denied HRT because I was misdiagnosed at some point prior.

There are many reasons a person may feel the need to express themself as more than one gender. I have been clinically diagnosed with PTSD & dissociative identities and have been on a medically prescribed transition-level estrogen HRT regimen for 4 years to control my female alter's gender dsyphoria. The Standards of Care are very specific about requiring a screening level of therapy to make sure that there are no psychological conditions that may be the underlying cause of the gender dysphoria before allowing a patient to commence with any sort of gender transition. Your complex history suggests there is alot to consider before prescribing hormones.
