News Is Everyone In Australia Ok?

Well I'm in a state below, but the fires are really bad at the moment. Problem with the native flora here is that it burns like a tinder box when it does dry out, pine fires have got nothing on it! Tea tree, bracken and gum tree flash burn pretty quickly, so I'm pretty concerned about those up near the Blue Mountains, which is very close to Sydney.

Worst part is, there's been several reports of teens deliberately lighting grass fires near Sydney, so I imagine that the whole continent is looking pretty darkly on them right now, I know I am!

Also been reports of thieves breaking into houses that were left because of imminent fire threat, and stealing thousands in cash and goods. I can certainly empathise, I was burgled 4 days ago but I can only image how awful it is when your family home is under threat too.

I'm in Melbourne, so we are unaffected by the fires here. I heard they are in the blue mountains yesterday. I don't watch the news though, so don't know much more about it. We had our run with the King Lake fires a few years back...it's Sydney's turn now. May they all be safe and the fire be put out with minimal destruction.

We are not far from the fires, about a hundred kilometers away, huge amount of smoke and ash in the sky but all ok here. Its scary and everyone is on edge, a part of living in the bush I guess. Thanks for your concern. Makes me realise the power of mother nature, I feel like an ant in comparison.

I'm in a different state, so all ok on the home front, but watching the progress of the fires with much sadness and concern. These sort of events bring out the best, and the worst, in people...
