I have had PTSD for five years now and have only gone to seek help once. That’s when I was diagnosed, but I had a very negative experience and now 5 years later have come to terms with needing help, but it’s been so long. I just wonder if there really is any help for me at this point.

So very glad you are open to getting help and have the insight to know it's time and you need it! Like others have said that is half the battle and is different for everyone. I do not know if it's really true but from what I have learned PTSD is very treatable. That being said I think it takes a lot of hard work and even then depending on experiences and neurological changes it's variable. I have actively been working on getting better for a year just by using therapy and that is t enough..... getting ready to add medication as I just can't move forward with therapy with out it. Hope you can move forward and get good treatment.

I'm just now getting help for the first time & I've probably had PTSD for 11 years or more. Progress is slow, but it's progress nonetheless. I believe it's possible & it will be worth it. I maybe getting older, but I still have a lot of life left to live!

I've since then learned to stop "shoulding" on myself and others.
First time I've ever heard that term. Describes part of my daily battle lol.
Back to the OP's question.
Course not, there are Vietnam vet's who barely started getting help today for that matter.
Whatever method you find to help you in I suppose acceptance and coping as well as endurance and understanding is a plus in my book.
I was told there is no cure, so all there is left is to endure.

However, if you were stuck in a survival situation and needed to endure you wouldn't stay stationary and take on the storms and everything with out shelter. You'd seek out some wood, start a fire for warmth and build a shelter scout out for some water and food etc. So enduring with ptsd needs the uh... acceptance, coping and understanding of your needs basically. If that helps. I'm on year 7. I don't have a Therapist I just take pointers from other peoples therapists when they share on here. ;) Every time I sought help they wanted me on pills.
