Don't confuse "pity" with "compassion". Maybe it's smothering the local culture there with the whole babies-in-wedlock thing, but if a mum on the cusp of delivering said to me, "Nope, the father took off", you would definitely get "a look" on my face, but it would be compassion (while my head thinks "he must be a complete @rse"), not pity.

There are places to volunteer, just to rock babies....is there a chance of that???

Ive made friends with kids just to get my "baby fix" but @Casey_03 dont feel like a jerk for posting! You're about to be a mum for the first time and you have a right to ask questions that concern you! And im so happy for you! I just feel sad sometimes when i see people posting about being pregnant or about their families, im happy for them but at the same time feeling sad i can never be a mum.

But please dont feel like a jerk! Your question is very vaild! And i think the hospital asks out of habit. Id just tell them that you'll be alone in delivery or if family will be the whom it will be and leave it at that. I know every Doctor asking is annoying though and can be triggering! :hug:
