Long Hair Care

An update, an update *sings*

The day I posted my last hairy update, I bought meself a jar of coconut oil. The first 20 days I let my hair soak in it over night every other night. And what can I say? Coincidence would have it that after the second soaking I didn't have any split ends at all anymore. So I'm staying off of silicone and trying hard not to see coconut oil as a magic hair repairing ointment (because it isn't).

I'm now using it about once a week. It's fun to smear it in :D and it's really astonishing how little of the stuff you need to grease up a complete head of hair. It also smells really nice, but the scent washes out completely with one shampooing (except for the scarf I tied around my head; the sour components of the scent stick to the fabric for some reason so I now put a plastic bag underneath it; keeps the temperature in much better, too, so that the oil stays liquid and soaks in goooood).

And here's how long my hair has become:

FreakOfnuture- your hair is gorgeous! Coconut oil may not be a magic hair repairing ointment but it's pretty dang close :) I get such a charge out of all the products that go on about containing argan, ojon or one of the other palm oils when you can get the same benefit from a $10 jar of coconut oil from the health food store.

I didn't know weather to post this here or in a Christmas thread but...

i went to the hairdressers today for a colour and cut and then decided to go a bit mad and have something bright and Christmasy done with my hair. So here is the evidence of my madness!

These are feathers that are clipped into my hair near the root using a small bead that is pinched with pliers. They can be washed, dried and straightened as usual and come in all kinds of colours. I had sparkly copper tinssel in my hair last year! Well, you just have to be different!:roflmao:

I had some feathers clipped in my hair that way at a pow wow this summer. I loved it. You can actually do it yourself and lots of the kids type jewelery stores have feathers that you can use.

Very festive with the red.

What do all you other long haired people on the forum do to keep your protein strands as pretty as possible? Any tips or warnings?
My hair is so long I almost sit on it so I will tell you how I have help keep it so healthy, I wash with warm water never hot that is the worst thing to do to it as this makes it break away, then I add a cold rinse the dry with a towel left on my hair for about an hour. Then I use a hair dryer on a cool setting never hot as it will makes the cuticles bubble and always aim the hair dryer down wards so this seals cuticles result is glossy hair that shines in the light,

Now from within you must take a vitamin supplement, I take vitamin and minerals that are aimed for hair, did you know B vitamins are essential to hair. It also makes it grow quite fast but oh so thick too, B6 and B12 being the most essential of all without them your hair will be dull and very slow growing. Another thing is be sure you have a iron rich diet as lack of iron can thin hair and women of course are prone to this due to periods,

Another thing to do is massage scalp each day to help with blood flow, so helping feed the scalp and hair, I do all of these things and strangers always ask me my secret and ask if they can touch my hair. It is very long and thick and shines a lot, it isn't that much work really to have it that way simply follow my tips then you too can be like that!,

Other tip is use a clarifying shampoo this removes residue left by conditioners and hair products I would never use anything else.

I recently, started using Argan oil on my hair and I love it. :inlove:

And getting my hair trimmed every 8 weeks is probably doing more good then any other hair products I have tried over the years.

Sulphate free shampoo is very important.

I was afraid to have longer hair for a long time as the femininity of it made me feel vulnerable. Now finding the courage to have it longer which is much easier with my hair type.

My natural hair color looks like this:

I used to dye it, thinking it was dull and boring. Then I cut it all off, really short and grew it back to the natural color again. With the right hair products and trimmings every 8 weeks, it's no longer dull and lifeless. It's glossy now too.

But I did perm it 6 months ago. It didn't stick and now months after I got it done it will get a bit wavy...but now it gets fizzy too! So I have to battle that, but the Argan oil helps. And yesterday I bought Argan shampoo and conditioner. I am excited to try it. I think it will help with the fizzyness. I don't think I will perm it ever again.

Curling doesn't stick with my hair. The curls go away in a few hours and even when I am curling it they don't like to curl easily.
