Lost Insurance = No Medications.. Help!

So right now I'm on 5 different medications.. one anti-depressant, an anti-anxiety when I need it, one to help me sleep, one to help with the nightmares, and a mood stabilizer. So I just lost my job that provided my health insurance (luckily I had two jobs so I still have income) and now I'm about to run out of my remaining medications and I have NO idea what i'm going to do once I run out.

Has anyone had a similar situation? I asked the people at the pharmacy how much some would be w/o insurance and they're way out of my price range. I'm trying to get another full time job that will provide health insurance but I don't know what to do until I get insurance again. Do I taper off the meds when they get low? Ugh I have no idea.

I'm scared because I can't go see my T or the Dr. that prescribed the meds because of the no insurance, it'd be too expensive, so I can't ask them, and before I was put on these medications I was in the mental hospital because I was considered too unstable and unsafe for myself. I'm afraid if I go off the medication, especially not being monitored i'll end up in that situation again.. and it was super expensive being there with insurance.. now that I don't have it I can't imagine what would happen if i would end up back in the hospital.

Any help or advice that anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated.. I only have about two weeks left..

Have you called the medicine companies directly and asked if they offer any programs for recieving free medicine or low-income options. My Mother has MS and receives some of her medicine she needs for it for free from the medicine companies because of those programs. It could be worth asking.

Sorry you are in this situation and I hope something works out for you.

Yes, both of the above posts work. The individual companies do have programs wher they provide free meds through your doc's office to you for uninsured people, although I do not know the requirements. You should have a conversation with you doc, since with no insurance you do not wish to be charged for the doc appointment.I think you can apply on-line, or through your doc office-there are papers to print out and sign and have your doc sign, then mail. Also possibly have your doc write some mulpitple refills for some of these which possibly can be filled at some of the major pharmacies who have those lists of 4$ prescriptions. Perhaps ask your doc if any of the meds on these lists can be substituted for meds you're currently taking? One of my step-daughters was in a similar position not long ago and we looked into this for her.Hee- it transpired she preferred not to pursue the options-long story- but we did find a ton of awfully good information!

Setting all this up might be kind of a pain with all the running around, forms to download, fill out, etc. but whew- worth it in the end! :) Much good wishes with all this, and take care!
