I have started getting weekly 1 hour full body massages for the last 2 years. At first it was really hard to let someone else do that much touching on me, but now it is a have to have treatment. My muscles stay tense....sometimes really tense. As far as I can tell, my body has learned how to go to sleep without relaxing. Massage really helps with my muscle tension issues. Not that my muscles aren't re-tensed by the next day, but it helps to keep things from getting out of hand.
I took a trip out of the country for a few months last winter and was in an area where there were no masseuses. I was in so much pain by the time I got back that I was whimpering.
Does anyone else find that massage is an important part of their PTSD therapy?
