Me vs. Icy Steps (And I Lost)

Man, I don't think I've been in this much pain since I had pleurisy two years ago

Anyway, yesterday me and my b/f were leaving the house to go get my car tags renewed. I usually go through the garage, but he wanted to go through the front door, so we did. While he went to close the front door I started heading down the steps, which hadn't been cleared off (since like I said, I go through the garage). I stepped on a slippery spot, immediately fell on my butt, hitting my spine against the edge of the porch in the process, and slipped down the next few steps on my butt.

So yeah, my spine from the spot I hit down hurts, my lower back hurts, my left buttcheek hurts, and my right forearm hurts. Bending over hurts, getting out of a car hurts, and it took me bloody forever to fall asleep last night despite having taken Excedrin for the pain (which didn't do squat).

Now, this is exactly why I go through the garage!!

So yes, I am a mess, how are you today? :hello:

Awwww Yumeko :(

Altho i have to say, the way you described it DID make me chuckle a little! (why is it we always laugh when people fall) lol

I hope you feel better! make sure you take care of it!

What makes it even more funny is that it's the kind of pain that makes you laugh, like when you hit your funny bone. Heck, even reading up on how to best handle it was making me laugh.

Fortunately I had yesterday (and today) off of work, and it's just as well since truck came in yesterday, so by the time I head back it'll be done, so I won't have to worry about moving totes around. Still, I imagine I won't be able to move around very well. I guess that means I can have everyone dote on me!! :thumbs-up (Yeah right)

Ohhh, owch!!! :( Sorry to hear about that! I can definitely empathize, having slipped on ice and injured my tailbone a couple winters ago.

2quilt is right. Icing it should help...humorously ironic since that's what caused it in the first place! Maybe take ibuprofen for the swelling? I've been told that it can help when taken in higher doses (800+ mg). Disclaimer: I am not a medical professional.

I woke up with a wicked headache this morning, but Aleve has kicked most of it. Right now I'm being naughty and eating fast food, which I almost never do!

that sounds painful. I've been trudging through wet snow today and am now huddling up to my heater.

Have you seen those clip on metal things for your boots? I might get some this year...

(Mina: you're in CO? Me too! I used to live in Littleton but now I'm in the Springs. Where are you at?)

I've helped out in the pharmacy at work enough to know that 800mg of ibuprofen is only available in a prescription  Unless I take, like, four pills of the OTC stuff, lol.

Naproxen (Aleve) is about the only pain pill I DON'T have here. I have just about everything else. Go fig. Let's see if ibuprofen does anything for me...

Yumeko--Sorry you're hurting. I've done something similar before and know it really hurts. I definitely don't miss living in the snow/ice...I live in FL, our high today was 61 and we thought it was wicked cold.

Hi Yumeko,

Poor you ! I can sympathise with you cause I am a clutz...and I have a phobea about ice. Winter is here and I dread it !!!!!! I literally can't walk on ice. I freeze :wall: This week we had some freezing rain, fortunately it wasn't so bad on my street. And then same week we had our first major snowstorm. Let it snow as much as it wants !! That is what winter is for...not rain that turns into ice ! I can handle snow over ice any day ! lol

I can handle driving in the snow...at least until the roads get icy. Then I get downright paranoid. I will NOT go out driving when they're like that if I can avoid it.

On the bright side, I think the ibuprofen is working a little bit (not as much as I want, but it's doing something, at least -- I can bend over a tiny bit!). I talked with a nurse at my doctor's office over the phone (since my doc has been out all week...d'oh) and she said based on my weight I can take up to 600mg every six hours. And she asked if my legs hurt, probably to rule out anything more serious like a fracture. My legs are fine -- though I wouldn't be surprised if I did get a hairline fracture or something. That one vertebra I smacked on the porch still friggin' hurts.

And my head felt unusually fuzzy when I got up from a little catnap a couple hours ago. It's better now but it didn't go away for a while. Not sure if that's related :dontknow:

The title of your posts reminds me of when it was my toe vs. the sideboard in a dark hall. Needless to say I lost as well.

I hope you feel better. Lots of good advice on how to take care of the aches and pains. Although you probably have the best one...avoiding the icy steps. When I lived in Germany, we had icy steps and every time it snowed (and it snowed A LOT!) I would hit that damned icy spot and bounce down the steps on my behind. Fortunately life saw fit to give me an ample one.

Feel better.
Lisa
