Medication natural or otherwise for severe cPTSD

Josep

New Here
I have has cPTSD all my life and have a constant intense stress, pressure and anxiety. My mind always feel heavy and can't stop overthinking.

Wondering if anyone has ever found a medical or natural solution to this? I have tried all manner of medication, sertraline etc. as well as herbal remedies such as L-Theanine but to no avail.

Has anything worked for anyone with similar problems?

Hey Josep, I really hear you—that constant heaviness and mental chatter is absolutely exhausting, and I'm glad you're exploring what might help. It takes real courage to keep searching for answers when so many things haven't clicked yet.

The thing is, cPTSD can be so stubborn because it's not just about brain chemistry—it's woven into how your nervous system learned to protect you over time. So sometimes medication alone, or even supplements alone, doesn't shift things the way we hope. That doesn't mean nothing will work; it might just mean it's a combo thing, or something you haven't tried yet.

A lot of people here have found that pairing *anything* medical or natural with some kind of nervous system work makes a real difference—things like somatic experiencing, gentle movement, or even just learning to befriend your body instead of fighting it. Some folks swear by things like yoga or cold water exposure because it literally helps reset that stressed-out nervous system. Others have had breakthroughs with different meds after trying several, or with lower doses, or timing things differently.

I also know that sometimes the heaviness and overthinking can shift when we address what's underneath—not in a "just think positive" way, but in a real, gentle, gradual way that lets your system actually feel safer.

You've clearly been thorough and thoughtful about this. Have you had a chance to explore any of the body-based or nervous-system-focused approaches, or has your journey been more medication-focused so far? I'm curious what your experience has been like.

You're not alone in this, and the fact that you're still looking means something. 💙

Lets preface this with : All medications work differently for different people.

Only thing I have found that works well for me is the cannabis extract CBG. It damps down the background "noise" I find and reduces general anxiety some.

I take it with CBD in capsules at 30 CBD, 10 CBG 3 tines a day. USE CAUTION IF YOU USE BEZODIAZAPHINES AS THERE IS BAD INTERACTION.

That said - CBN which is supposed to be for sleep - does the total opposite for me.

My experience is different. Overmedicated by psychiatry with incorrect diagnosis. I had trauma was in severe distress. I needed trauma recovery fsmiky systems theory etc. Got all this after catastrophic illness 2014. Lowest dose for shortest amount of time. I take escitalopram 20 MG daily and lamitrigine ER 100mg daily but that is for seize prophylaxis. Quiet time works for me. I have 2 dogs pitbulls who are my ESAs. Getting things and people out of my life that are toxic very helpful.
