When I was in hospital last month I was put on Mirtazapine 30mg (Remeron) and whilst I'm mostly stable, I'm always very down and even if not actively trying to kill myself like before, I feel passively suicidal and spend long periods of time desperate to find escape and a way out of life. I'm scared that it is doing something to help and I still feel this bad all the time and if I come off of it I may be a worse somehow and danger to myself again. One thing that is noticeable is that though I have way worse trouble falling asleep, I have substantially fewer nightmares and don't wake up so many times a night.
Venlafaxine (Effexor) is on my list of other meds to try but it can take a long time (8-12 Weeks) to start working - I don't want to be medless for that long, especially if at the end of it, I find out it doesn't work anyway. The advantages are that the two can be combined so if/when it works I can taper off the mirtazapine or just keep both - because nothing I've taken has worked yet and I'm beginning to think nothing ever will, it would be lovely if it did! That's the other plus the combination of the two has been used to effectively treat treatment resistant depression.
Has anyone had any experience with the two together? Please share! Thanks in advance.
