Hello,
I am Darren and I am 29..
about 7 years ago I had a traumatic event that most would have enjoyed.. but for me I didn't know what was going on..

Around 22 years old.. i tried smoking weed for the first time.. never got high smoking it.. tried for a week or two each day.. never felt a thing..

A "friend" of mine just said your body isn't use to it and you should just smoke until you feel it..

Well.. i ended smoking an ounce of weed to myself.. and well.. i got high.. but.. what the doctors and neurologists still wonder if it was laced or the fact that I just lost my mind in a panic attack..

I started to "get high" but within the first minute.. i began to hallucinate.. i saw what was a drop of blood in the center of my vision.. everywhere my head turned.. the drop would roll around (i would feel and hear it) to my movements.. getting bigger and putting more pressure in my skull.

It got to the point where all my vision and body felt like it was being crushed by this ball in my skull..i ended up being paralyzed (mentally) because I couldn't move.. the pressure in my head from that got soo painful I blacked out.. and ended up in the er.. when I woke up.. i kept hallucinating off and on.. as the drug was still in my system..

I was in the er sedated for 8 hours..

Well stupidly I tried it again (not quite) I got in.. about to light up.. and flashbacks started to hit.. eactly to the first one..

The first week after that was rough.. every day I was hallucinating the same thing... and for about a year after I was afraid to eat or drink any thing in cali because I thought it might have week in it..

I hit a skunk once on the road.. and it triggered a flash back.. i called 911.. and they didn't see anything in my system..

Since all of this.. i have been on 40 mg of prozac for GAD, ocd and hypochondra. 3mg of ativan to stop the daily panic attacks..

And everyone in the er knows me by first name :(

So i am here.. and glad I found this place :)

Wow. That sounds like a pretty terrifying experience, as well as a really unusual one. I've never hallucinated (well that I can currently remember) but I am no stranger to panic attacks. They are pretty much one of the worst experiences in the world. As a Neuropsych grad, I'm super intrigued by your experience with weed, I wonder what the heck was happening in your brain. (I'm sorry if that came across insensitive, I just like to understand how things work. I'm pretty much psychoanalysing myself 24/7, can be exhausting at times.) I'm sorry you went through what you did, and that its currently causing such stress in your life :(. I just joined the site too, but so far so good. So welcome! Hope you find some solace here amongst fellow sufferers, as I too am looking for. :)

Hello, Darren :)

Do you have CriterionA trauma in your history as well? (Listed below), because otherwise CriterionH (exclusions) means the good news is that you won't have PTSD from a bad trip / bad reaction to meds. There are a whole host of substance use triggered disorders & issues, but while they may share some symptoms with PTSD, those conditions & disorders will have different treatments, best protocols, timelines, & expectations.

Criterion H: exclusion
Disturbance is not due to medication, substance use, or other illness.

Criterion A: stressor
The person was exposed to: death, threatened death, actual or threatened serious injury, or actual or threatened sexual violence, as follows: (one required)

  1. Direct exposure.
  2. Witnessing, in person.
  3. Indirectly, by learning that a close relative or close friend was exposed to trauma. If the event involved actual or threatened death, it must have been violent or accidental.
  4. Repeated or extreme indirect exposure to aversive details of the event(s), usually in the course of professional duties (e.g., first responders, collecting body parts; professionals repeatedly exposed to details of child abuse). This does not include indirect non-professional exposure through electronic media, television, movies, or pictures.

This would be the only one I would think.. i know my mom watched her father shoot himself while on heroine and alcohol.. then her brother commuted suicide after being in the Navy.. both of my dad cousins died of brain cancer.. so.. maybe...
(Edit: my mom wasn't on heroine.. it was her dad)

Welcome, @CarverMG. Unfortunately, psychosis can happen while smoking marijuana. The good news there is that it might not have been laced with anything at all, just had high levels of THC and you over-did it.

Are you in therapy? It can really help.

And @FridayJones is right, a PTSD diagnosis can't happen as a result of a drug experience, but it's clear that you are struggling with the aftermath of the drug-induced psychosis. I hope you can find stuff on the forum that helps you out!
