I struggle at work I find even the most low level negativity soul destroyingly crushing I know the world cant be a lovely place all the time I wish it all did not get me down so much. at least I have this website now so I don't feel like I am doing it all by myself. I am just reflecting on why negativity sucks the life so quickly out of ptsd sufferers more than the average person.

Hey, Terry. I have the same problem, and as you mentioned, probably most of us do. I think there are a couple of things at play here. First, many of us are shame-based, so the smallest criticism becomes an affirmation of our lack of worth, and second, anything that compromises our sense of safety throws us straight into survival mode. So, even someone telling me that I made a typo threatens my sense of security.

That's just my theory, but it's the model I'm using to try to get past these issues that I am doomed to overreact to.

It's common especially in Britain, lots of people got a big chip on their shoulder. I've never met so many negative people as in Britain and I freeze them out, I tell myself I'm glad I ain't them!

It is funny you mention brits, I have noticed similarities. They are so sober, clinical, abrupt at times, just a completely different kind of breed as far as I am concerned.

I know, they are, I think I was born in the wrong country!

@Terry W - Sorry you are struggling with this. I, too, am very sensitive. Even if it isn't directed at me, the aura of others flairs into my emotional space and sets me off. It's difficult to contend with and still do work. Also, the cadence people use can be very jarring. I have found, in my new position, that the person training me iis very direct and has an edge to her voice. Eeekk! I believe others have mentioned this to her, but she is who she is, unabashedly. She's from another area of the country from me and she shared at lunch that this is the way people are in her home state - passive aggressive (her words, not mine). Very interesting. I don't respond well to domineering, directional, and/or loud personalities. I'm looking for another opportunity. The CPTSD has certainly added another level of awareness to my job search. Gracious, the continual searching is nerve-searing enough! Best to you. VB

So glad i found your thread, i have a major case of Sunday blues for exactly the same reasons as those you mention, i have no tips but just glad Im not alone in this struggle. I struggle to seperatr myself from the emotions of those around me so get so stressed and annoyed over things that arnt my issue. Also the constant pressure of trying not to mess up.

Your not alone in this, hope your week isnt as bad as you fear

I beleive that in all countrys and people you can find good and bad. I think for me its a case of learning how to not get to overinvolved in what does not concern me and staying inside my own experience. And also learning how to accept some facts of life such as politics go on. People sometimes do not get along, some people are different and do not see the world the same way I do.

I am so glad I found this thread. I am having this exact problem. Even if someone else is being mistreated at work, it makes me feel ill. I feel all hot and buzzy. When I go home, I can't stop thinking about it or calm down. It affects my ability to make money and I don't want to rely on my wife for finances. I actually don't know what to do or how to fix this.
