What an over whelming experience with my my first psychiatrist appointment. I arrived and what is parked in the car park? the brand of car that triggers me, not a great start. In tears, I asked the receptionists if it was a staff members or client, so I could prepare myself by parking somewhere else in future.
Any way I finally got called in after Dr being 1 hour late, I look out the window and his office backed onto the car park, I got him to close the blinds, he started with my childhood, a place I didn't want to go, explained to him mum left when I was 4 and left me with a very violent father, apparently I'm not his "Kid" yet I'm the only one out of us kids that looks like him, I coped a lot of physical and emotional abuse, including threats with a gun, and knife so on and so on.
He ended up in jail for a while. He attempted to hang himself when I was 13 and blamed it on me "It's your fault you aren't my kid" I left when I was 15, fell pregnant at 17. He was last physically abusive to me when I was 21.
I left the state. The Dr said "You have been through a lot" I replied "when you live it and don't know better it's a normal life" which he agreed.
He then wanted to know about the suicide attempt in regards to my husband. I explained it all the search helicopter, volunteers walking the mountain, the police me having to drive his car with vomit, broken glass smell of petrol and so on.
I continually cried it just poured out of me. I get to reception they said $280 please. I stated "What?" I was told first consultation free then Dr would consider bulk billing. That's why I went there because we can't afford it otherwise because I'm not back at work at the moment, so tears again thinking were am I going to get that? Ended up working that out, they said sorry and the initial worker that told me that got it wrong and that happens with another Dr that deals with ADHD.
Feel like I can't win.
