'Off switch' for pain discovered: Activating the adenosine A3 receptor subtype is key to powerful pain relief....

You know... The adenosine tails (like tadpoles) attached to our DNA get shorter as we age. There's a pretty heavy theory out there (at least 5 years ago when I was in school) that if we could make the little buggers stick around longer, we'd stop aging. That cell degeneration is primarily due to the tadpoles getting shorter tails. Tons of old money floods the research into it. Apparently no one has found duct tape small enough to give it a whirl, yet.

Whoops... Point being... Pain, old age, (invisability, walking through walls, what next???)... That adinosine seems to be where all the cool kids hangout. Pretty mind blowing stuff. Still in animal trials, it looks like, but if it's pain block with full cognition? Thanks for the lookout ODG. Something to keep an eye on.

As a redhead, I often wonder what the pain you non-mutants feel is like as research shows we carrot tops experience it differently.

As for the adenosine tails, I wonder how much the epigenome influences tail structure over time. i also wonder if there is a connection between tail length and rate of degeneration of mitochondrial population. And is this results in eventual failure of myelin sheaths on neurons contributing to the dementia we all develop if we live long enough.

Either way, I don't wanna live longer than I should unless they let me go cybernetic.

I was lost at the end of carrot tops experience it differently. :D:rolleyes:(n)

Now that one guy, the Grand Architect (aka God) Said it so I could understand it....Listen up ass holes, since you pissed me off, you will now get f*cking sick, hurt and get old. Then you will die....Oh, I may let a few of you sorry asses live for 120 years max!!!! Now that's is easy to understand......So I am f*cked, make that we are f*cked!!!:rolleyes::rolleyes::whistle::whistle::whistle::coffee::coffee::coffee:

Almost forgot, I like the going cybernetic......I love ghost in the shell.:):):):):) Where do I sign up???:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Hell yeah! Got my first implant back in August. Self installed the type of RFID chip they put in pets and then got a small tattoo over top of it explaining I can be scanned for basic medical info like name, DOB and blood type.
Scheduled to get a QR code tattoo in January that will provide detailed emergency data.

If I could go all GITS, I'd intimidate my way back on active duty just on principal.

Anyway, I still hate getting old and sore, But I am perfectly fine with a pre established lifespan. Who the Frak would want to be this miserable for longer?

I've suffered from chronic pain since being wounded, that's more than 46 years. In that time there have been many advances in medicine and treatments of all kinds. Someday, perhaps, they will find the 'switch' to be able to turn pain off. In the meantime it's all conjecture and debate. Probably the only thing that I found marginally helpful was smoking pot.

Things don't tend to get better as you age, as we all know. But I do know this; exercise, keep your weight down, eat right, get good rest, stay active mentally there's no magic pill. Those things help in a general way, at least for me. Also, acupuncture is something that I find a great help. I do take an occasional pain med, but try to keep that few and far between. You've got to work at wellness like anything. It's ain't easy but I know it could be worse. I read about this kind of stuff so often that It's just like the other miracle cures for PTSD, there just aren't any.

You have to be good at managing your own healthcare, you get one chance at it. So my thing is, it's life, adjust to it and get on with it. As always just one guys opinions.

I would expect nothing less for you Jar.....Very well said Brother. Maybe I should try some pot? Tried some 40 years ago, was not my bag.:) Jar when you do take an occasional pain med, what do you use......I have chronic pain now as well, but only the last 3 years or so. My hat is off to you, dealing with it for 46+ years, has had to be a f*cking work out!!!! I have tried 2 Rx' so far, only made me sick, did not help the pain......I know I don't want to be on the Rx pain meds......

I'm trying it all. Pain meds don't work. Exercise seems to make worse. But mentally I feel better.

Lying on my ass...well that works best but then my brain hurts.

I am going to try acupuncture next. Does the VA offer this?

My pain management is a balance. A balance between mental stability vs. physical stability.

WOW!!!
So, NO PAIN NO GAIN, unless its a pipe, blunt, doobie, joint, or extremely satisfying brownie....? Will work here I am guessing? lol :-)

Pretty much everything mentioned above is gene-therapy or microbiology (and I have more than likely got the designators wrong, however my medical knowledge consisted of knowing exactly where that small gap existed between the base of the neck and the top of the skull where I desired to remove that calcium cap to ensure a nano-second of pain prior to :-)
As for pain therapy: I am all for it, because my wife suffers horrendous migraines that lay her out and I am unable to do anything. I cannot even hold her do to the fact that the slightest movement usually increases the pain. So, I have to sit back and just do what I can to ensure that nothing more occurs while she goes through the event. Hard for a Com Vet that stood in front of the round for countless unknowns (oblivious civilians), and has to watch a loved one suffer because there is no round to stand in front of. So, pain research I will support without comment.

P.S.
Ms. Mary J Wa.... is an allergy to her :-(

When I do need to take something for pain I use Vicodin/Hydrocodone 5mg w/ Acetaminophen 325mg (tylenol). One will usually help. It would be easy to slip into a daily and increasing dosage thing, which I've avoided all these years. That doesn't mean I won't have to at some time nor do I judge anyone who does. Hell, take heroin if it helps. Chronic pain is the worst of the worst, there's just no easy fix for anyone. You have to find what works best for you. And I do have hope for the future of pain treatment. There may be some real success with it in the future.

The VA does officially support acupuncture for pain therapy.

Disclaimer: As some of you know I buy into homeopathic remidies about as much as I do standard medical practices. However accupuncture and pot are exceptions to me. If it works for you, do it!
