I think I wanted to see blood or something, that sounds strange.

I don't remember doing it, but I looked down and saw that I must have cut myself and was bleeding.

It kind of feels like I was in a trance, has anyone else felt this way?
 
Yes. I have felt that way before.

Would you like some suggestions for ways of grounding yourself? Or for expressing what you feel?
Self harm can help us cope or feel better in the short term, but it is also addictive and becomes unsafe. There are other ways of getting what you need.

For grounding:
Freeze an orange (or use ice, but that melts and gets drippy) and then hold it in your hands
Eat something like ginger or a slice of lemon, which has intense flavor
Exercise (in moderation)
Use a pillow to hit a wall, or a stick to hit a tree, or throw ice cubes at the ground (it can be satisfying when they shatter)
Set a timer for five minutes and write down everything you can think of that is true, right now (Examples: My name is... I am [blank] years old... I am currently in [place] because [reason/purpose/activity]... I feel... and I need... I wish I could... What I can do for myself is... Half an hour ago I was... In half an hour I will...)

Also there are lots of good links to websites that list coping skills for various times. There are also guides for body scans and other similar meditation-style exercises. One of my favorite links is You feel like shit. It has an unfortunate name, but it is useful because it asks simple questions and offers things you can do to make your situation better.

Nope that's not strange at all. It's happened to me before while I was in a dissociative state. I just don't know what's going on at all sometimes when I'm like that.
