Is anyone else having physio a while after an RTA?

International forum, so just checking; RTA = Road Traffic Accident?

Physio in what sense?

Yeah road traffic accident. Still having intensive treatment on my shoulder 18 months later. The pain heightens my PTSD symptoms too.

This I can relate to. My pain has snapped me fast back in time. I have used it (not using medications) for a way to self harm or punish. Chronic pain is also very, VERY, VERY depressing.

PTSD (and other mental disorders) make pain worse too.

Yeah its physiotherapy - i go and get intense massage on my shoulder - they have to re aggrevate the tissue so it will mend properly but it hurts like hell - i have noticed, as mentioned when its painful my ptsd symptoms are heightened. I feel i have gone a little backwards in my ability to cope with being in the car (my nemesis) but im having quite intense physiotherapy at the moment.

Id freak from someone touching me.

Back when i had physical therapy, I was in denial and they couldnt do "land" physical therapy with me anyway. I was put in the pool so was a little easier.

Can you expand on this a little? Pain is hightening which symptoms do you think?

I feel i have gone a little backwards in my ability to cope with being in the car (my nemesis) but im having quite intense physiotherapy at the moment.

Yeah, thats hard. Right after i had totaled my dad's car, i had a hard time driving the rest of the way to work.

Maybe try some mindfulness, meditation, breathing exersizes and metaphors; or all of them; when the car is parked. Sit in there and try to become completely calm. Do it every day and it may become habit when driving?

When i had cbt the therapist said i should try all these metaphors and breathing stuff - it didnt work for me but i havent tried it before i start the engine x
