Well, since [DLMURL="https://www.ptsdforum.org/c/threads/future-plans-for-ptsdforum-org.11495/"]my future post 12 months ago[/DLMURL], we (I say we, as many made things happen, including members) have progressed quite a long way and managed to get all aspects integrated into the network, and even more, with the developments due to vBulletin getting worse and Xenforo software being released as a far superior commercial grade option.

Running any website of significance and use takes more forethought than just making sudden changes. Most things I actually do have prepared for change long in advance, but may not necessarily reveal them until closer to launch.

With previous mention to the future [DLMURL="https://www.ptsdforum.org/c/threads/myptsd-looking-towards-the-future-in-free-online-ptsd-treatment.15967/"]MyPTSD resource announcement[/DLMURL], I have since improved upon initial discussion concepts with a more robust overall solution to the network of sites. The largest inherit issue with PTSD Forum, from a future growth viewpoint, is that when I started it ptsdforum.com was already owned, so I went with the .org option, as at that time, the site was just a forum, nothing else, and I really had no idea whether the site would grow or not. Well, it has, and the site has established itself as an authoritative resource on PTSD as well as support community.

We got SSA and Combat areas established, breaking out those two topics for two independent, yet good reasons, which are their own niche. Sexual abuse, as you don't have to have PTSD to be sexually abused, and combat ptsd forum as vets don't play nice as a majority with empathetic views, it really is a culture of its own, which requires a different approach to be supported than what this site offers. We have the media section, wiki is slowly building, live chat facility, etc... all going forward well.

So... something that I normally wouldn't do, being to release such details yet, I am doing so to obtain feedback upon, which may change my plans slightly over the next two years.

Points of interest and there respective reasoning/s:
  • PTSD Forum, the brand, will be shifted and be no more in 2013. Instead, PTSD Forum will become part of MyPTSD brand. (Will remain PTSD Forum) A complete, all-in-one resource, support, walk through self-help to healing, live chat group discussions, and more.
  • SSA will become MySexAbuse, of which domains are already owned.
  • Combat PTSD will become MyCombatPTSD, of which domains are already owned.
  • Introduction of a new forum, MyDomesticViolence, which is also a very prominent subject that requires more support online.
  • All websites will be networked under one design, with subtle differences in colours and logo.
  • All websites will more than likely become a single login procedure. This will minimise issues across multiple site registration for those applicable, yet also allow expansion to the chat system where public rooms are established for each topic, and with single signin, this will allow the one chat system, which is expensive to purchase and run, to be used collectively on the one website, yet linked easily from all sites, and branded to include all sites.
  • The entire network will be HTTPS authenticated and verified.
  • Flashcoms Sitemail implemented, providing a fully functional internal Audio / Video email system.
  • Two years is allocated because it will take that long for Xenforo software to mature and provide the resources we need, as well as my own qualifications, then building site information, etc... getting it all coming together, will take atleast two years.
As you can grasp an understanding, the forward thinking is already at two years from now on how PTSD Forum and its network will evolve. Again, many reasons why the change of domain names will occur in the future. The overall end result will be a collective network of support for key topics, yet the primary focus of PTSD from my view will be focused more intensely, more information and easier self help, as well as paid specialised help for those that want such.

Overall, approximately 2013 should be a solidified solution for the future of these sites going forward, where we have already taken control of the appropriate key names now for later use, removing any future issues with branding or even Trademarking, if things get to that level.

Feel free to have your say, positive or negative.

Sorry - here is a negative!
I don't like MySexAbuse.
SSA is discrete.

I can appreciate that you want the names to reflect 'the family' of forums, but I like the use of initials, I like the fact that it says 'survive'.

I am not sure I can explain myself well. MyPTSD sounds OK to me, as, yes, it is my PTSD.
But it is NOT my sex abuse. That was my perpetrator's. He owns it. I just happened to be there.

I appreciate your feedback Lucy. Whilst I agree with what you're saying, the name will remain as it actually goes deeper than branding within the network, and "My" was used for very good psychological purposes. It subconsciously implies ownership to the person of what happened to them vs. denial.

"My" is the same as "I" statements, which means ownership of what has happened to you, not ownership of fault. You have applied this as fault instead of its intended purpose of ownership to what has happened to you.

Yes, abusers own their act, however; if you have been sexually abused, then it is your sexual abuse now that you are dealing with, as it was you who was sexually abused. Being discreet does not psychologically help the problem, as its the same as dirty little secrets, which cause more harm than good.

Anthony, I am awed by the aims you have for the forums brand. It is way beyond my comprehension and I think it sounds wonderful - a one stop of information.

I firmly believe that the forum has helped me reach the stage I am at in managing my PTSD. The changes can only make the forum even better.

At the same time as developing the site, please remember to care for yourself (and Nicolette). Take time for one another with plenty of rest times.

Anyone know how many full moons there are between now and then:roflmao:?

Thanks KP... and too many full moons. Arghhhhhh......

I have to actually say, posting that "new member" page, basically being blunt as possible, seems to have curbed many of the new member "full moon" issues with people coming here with the belief they have rights to how this forum is run vs. asking questions and providing positive or negative feedback.

Being a brand-new member here, I feel my usual shyness at making a suggestion, but am thinking maybe it's good to overcome the usual discomfort, so here goes:

I had the same instinctive reaction to "MySexAbuse," and also wondered if the title itself could draw folks who are sexual predators? Is that my sick brain worrying too much?

Here's the actual suggestion: What about "MySexAbuseSurvival"?

Too long a name?

[While I've barely begun to discover the resources here, and can't learn a lot immediately -- am preparing for separating from my husband in the coming days, which is overwhelming but necessary for healing -- I do feel a lovely sense of reassurance that the future of what looks like a terrific healing resource is being proactively planned with care. Thanks for that, Anthony! That in itself feels "safe," while still allowing for the "growing pains" of improvement -- this synchs with my own sense of exactly what the difficult balance of my own psych health improvement will necessarily entail.]
