New Here
I'm here alone and tired. MY son and I were held hostage 5 years ago. MY son was an infant and is unaffected, but it is getting harder for me to function. I have recently started going to a therapist again but am currently un-medicated. I'm in a pretty dark place and just looking for support.

Hi Katie,

Welcome to the PTSD forum. You will find some really nice, supportive people here. There is also great information here as well. I know how scary it is to be held hostage. Bless your heart. I'm so glad you are going to be seeing a therapist.

One thing that can help you right away is breathing. Take some good deep, slow cleansing breathes. Hold it a couple of seconds, then release it completely out of your mouth. Do this several times and it will hep you stay calm.

Keep talking and coming from time to time. Look around. Make yourself at home. If you have any questions, just let us know.

Welcome Katie. I hope that you can begin to manage your PTSD from your terrifying experience. Medication doesn't have to be permanent. I hope if it is suggested that you get on medication that you follow through.

Thanks everyone.

Meds have not been suggested but the T I'm seeing is a student. I've been in a dark place for a long time but I'm trying to dig out. I was seeing a regular T and was on some meds a couple years back but my funding stopped. This is the most non family support I've ever gotten, an its only been 1 post.

Thank you.

Katie
