New Here
Good afternoon, its pretty awesome that there are places online like this. I have been doing counseling on and off for almost 3 yrs for ptsd. I am active in the marine corps and still fighting alot of the ptsd problems almost everyone has. Been in now just under 14 yrs and been dealing from what the dr's say with my ptsd for like 6 of them, i guess when i first noticed that problems i was more worried about being that marine that went to medical and then gone for appointments all the time.

Just looking for some answers to questions i have about it, dont feel comfortable talking to my higher ups, cause there still is a stigma in the military branches about going to medical and getting help for ptsd and other mental problems.

Welcome. your in a good place for some answers. There are lots of good people on here some still active duty but most of us are no longer serving. Your walking a very tight rope still being active and looking for help. I commend you for it. I know it cant be easy.

Give that a close watch. I know your still in but it explains things in an easy to understand way. Might even help you to better cope with anger issues. I know it helped me out a lot.

Good evening folks.

Thanks for the link. Yeah. I definitely get a good amount of shit from my leadership. Letting me know I'm going to ruin my career.

Welcome @Passypass ~ you should not have to deal with that stigma, it is a bitch! Make sure you get into the Marine Wounded Warrior Program and get a case manager, ask them about being protected from stigma. Your Commanders & SNCOs primary responsibility should be to ensure you can seek treatment and be effective, meaning they should accommodate the medical requirements of your combat injuries (PTSD included) as they would anything else:

Im probably not the only marine that repeats that in there head. "Wounded Warrior program, but thats for marines with tbi and amputees" I know ptsd is a injury and hurts in other ways. Just alot to take in, with all the counseling I have done and meds they have had me on. The marital problems this has put me thru and family problems. Haven't talked to my imediate family in almost 7 months, and I could care less. Same with my wife and kids, I care for all of them but any load noise or anything gets me going. I just shut everything out and sit in the dark.
Thank u for the link, I know I need to do what's best for me and my family. I guess the corps has ingrained this quality that I stop and think is this going to over my chain, is this going to make my life worse. So much going on in my head.

Passypass,

First welcome! Second, you are living part of the stigma yourself. You have to remember that you have also been wounded, it is just not as viscerally visible as an amputee. But wounded nonetheless. Getting good therapy and potentially the right drugs things will get better.

This forum and the people here are a fantastic resource and it is also a safe place for you to bitch, gripe, rant, rave, laugh, cry, etc... Good to have you.
