Random Things I Do

I have noticed recently that I have random questions constantly running in my head. I have also researched alot of these things on the internet. Like a few nights ago my son and I were talking about serial killers. Still not sure how that subject came up but regardless I started searching things about it. I learned about alot of serial killers and the things they did.
Then after researching that my brain kinda went into over load and I started researching the oldest tree. Apparently the oldest tree in North America was cut down in 1964 and it was over 4,800 years old.

Another day today and another random thought I was wondering why they call the Lion the king of the jungle but I have never seen a picture of a Lion in the jungle only on the savanna. Which then lead me to research Tigers because I have seen them in a jungle and I learned that Tigers have 3 different colors. Regular, white, and very rarely black. The white tigers are not born in the wild and it is a recessive gene that causes them to be white but there are alot of health risks involved in being white. Along the same lines the black tiger is largely miss identified. It is very rare to have a black tiger and those are born in the wild the "black tiger" is basically a regular colored tiger that has abnormally large black stripes.
I don't really have a point to all of this but I just wanted to share the things I learned. My wife told me to tell other people about the stuff I research. She says it would be interesting to other people to see how my really works. I do have alot of random thoughts and questions and if they didn't have internet I wouldn't ever find out the answers.
I will try to keep this updated with the random things I come up with.

I do the same thing. I research random things. By the way, did you know that clown fish... like Finding Nemo... actually start their lives as genderless... the dominant one develops as female and the next dominant one develops as male. If the female is killed or something the male actually becomes female... Random stuff is interesting.

Kindred spirits!

I sit and do that sometimes also. I am also a HUGE public TV freak and am always picking odd factoids from there. One day in a session with the last T he said something and I mentioned Niagara Falls which led to a brief discussion of Lake Erie which prompted me to say, "Did you know that 20% of the entire earth's fresh water supply is held in the Great Lakes?" And he just stared at me for a moment and said no, he didn't. At work I hold the title "queen of useless facts." I am feeling much more normal now.

Popeye, did you know that tigers have striped skin and not just striped fur? Sorry, since we were talking about tigers...

This leads me to ponder: do you think that PTSD creates a tendency in a person to have better/more vivid recall? Or is a person more susceptible to PTSD because they are already blessed with a more vivid memory and recall? Maybe this fact obsession says something about us in this vein?

Some factoids I love:

Humphrey Bogart never says "play it again Sam" in Casa Blanca.

Delilah herself does not cut off Samson's hair.

Apparently no word in the English language rhymes with the word "orange."

The plural of moose is moose but the plural of goose is geese(!). You can have a herd of moose but you can't have a flock of goose. : )

Who made up the names for groups of things.

For example, It's a 'Murder' of Crows. A 'Pod' of Whales, yet a 'School' of Fish.

What do you think we should call a group of people with PTSD.

And what is a group of people????

You can have a Crowd. You can have a Line. You can have a Mob.

I absolutely LOVE this thread!!!

Why do I say I am suicidal when all I really want is for the pain to go away?

Does a dog's personality really change when he is neutered? Does it make him angry?

Why are humans so afraid of little tiny insects, like they have teeth and poison on all of them?

What would happen if we were taught the language of animals so we could talk to them about life?

When I'm at work I have these random thoughts that pop up about this, that or the other. Thank God for google and the internet. I've always been a questioner about things. Unfortunately it used to take a trip to the library to find the answers. Now I just open up google and type in what my question is, get the answer and I can relax and go on with life. Does anyone find that they can't continue with what they were doing until they find the answer to the question that's in their mind?

Apparently no word in the English language rhymes with the word "orange."
Witchy-poo on H.R. Puffinstuff sang a song 'Oranges, poranges...who says there ain't no rhyme for oranges'. So there.

What do you think we should call a group of people with PTSD
Well, I've heard 'As crazy as a shit-house rat' before. And I found these group names for rats: COLONY of rats, PACK or SWARM of rats, MISCHIEF of rats. Personally I like a Mischief of PTSDers.

How about a "bin" of PTSDer's (as in loony)? I'm glad we can poke fun at each other here.

Talk about classifying people--the local news got me the other day as there have been a few murders making the head lines and the first thing the news said about each case is that there was a history of mental illness. One guy had bipolar disorder and they went into a lot of detail. When you hear things like that you can hear the doors around town slamming shut. Just what any one group of sufferers need is someone advertising how dangerous someone is because they have a mental illness. Sad.

I was wondering last night when computers went from being all technical like the commadore 64 to the current versions. Apparently they contribute that to the invention of the mouse. Douglas Engelbart invented the mouse back in 1964 but it wasn't used on a personal computer until the Xerox 8010 Star Information System in 1981. The Apple Macintosh in 1984 computers were one of the first to actually have wide use of the computer mouse.
